Remarks

The admission process was easily comprehensible after the cut off had been released by the University of Delhi. An aspiring student has to match their percentage with the aforementioned cut off list and has to visit the college for admission to the concerned college. One has to submit his documents and collect the acknowledgement slip. If one is applying through the reservation category one should have the updated caste certificate. If one is applying based on the EWS Certificate, it should also be updated. Then there are some mandatory documents one need to submit with the DU officials : 1. Matric Class Certificate 2. Inter Class Certificate 3. Provisional Certificate 4. Migration Certificate 5. Character Certificate 6. Passport size photographs (required according to the need of the admission process) 7. At least two sets of photocopies for the above mentioned certificate. After the submission of all the certificates, an individual has to submit his fees through the online portal shared.

Course Curriculum Overview

4.5

I chose B.A (Hons.) English. Because it is an interdisciplinary course. It bolds and highlights the importance of analytical and critical thinking through various funnels of genres related to fiction, non-fiction, science, politics, philosophy and psychology. Students of this course are mostly liberal and accepting. People here in this course accepts all kind of students with exceptional excitement and welcome. This course consists of both boys and girls. There is also a stereotypical notion that this course meant only for girls but in my class, there was an equal proportion to boys and girls. Our faculty and staff teachers were the best, I am not saying this because I surpassed this degree with good marks but the teachers were so convincing, soft spoken and always promote or elicit your point of view or opinion in the class. Most of the faculty members have completed their Master or PHDs from JNU. See, the competition in the course was quite tough and we need to read extensively.

Internships Opportunities

0.5

Personally, I didn't apply for an internship that gives a stipend as I was working on freelancing projects and mostly earning my monetary income from personal home tuitions. On freelancing, I was doing some typing related stuff that needs to be completed in stipulated timeframes. Secondly, there are some competitions in the college during events where you can earn a good amount of money likely 2k, 3k, 5k or even 10k. There are easy home tuitions in Delhi where you can easily get some good amount likewise 5k-8k per month or even more than that depending upon the geography.

Placement Experience

3

The student is eligible to apply for placements even before the starting of his/her final year. The companies visited so far in the college for various job profiles are: 1. Deloitte 2. Coca Cola 3. Tresvista 4. McKinleys 5. Mindforce 6. Blockwiz 7. EXL Services Average packages of all these companies start from 3.5 lakhs to 10 lakhs per annum. As I already mentioned our college mainly focuses on sales and marketing profiles which are directly related to commerce students. English Hons. students can also easily got the placement if they have the sales and marketing knowledge or had some background related to the concerned field. Hence, it's not a matter of any merit rather it is depended upon our personal choices. One of my friends also gets placed while struggling through various personal interviews and logical reasoning tests. For me, I have plans to continue my studies from MA English because I personally don't feel like working just based on my graduate degree.

Fees and Financial Aid

The fees for this course are nominal. It is approximately 7 thousand per annum including library and annual charges. One can easily take the burden of paying it from their own expenses. I was paying my fees through my own income from tuitions and freelancing which I was doing meanwhile my college days. In Delhi, you can easily get tuition and freelancing projects for your daily expenses. In my tenure as a student, there were no hikes in fees. There were many governmental and inter-governmental scholarships you can apply for in the college. I applied through National Scholarship Portal and fortunately received my scholarship amount in the first year of my college. In some cases, financial assistance can be provided by the college. Our college about placements is all about B.Com (Honors.) But in English Hons. there are some jobs related to content writing, but the package is not so cool and satisfying. You will not get a handsome salary after doing the graduating in the contemporary world.

Campus Life

4

There are many interactive societies, groups and events in the college related to drama, songs, dance, sports, creative writing, debating, fashion society (recently incorporated in college premises), environmental society, UPSC preparation society etc. The library is beautiful, big and updated with rich resourceful sources. The student's library does not have ACs but it's ventilated properly. So you will never feel suffocating and weather related problems. The library has an amicable and student friendly environment. You can search the books available in the library through the college portal by using IoT facilities available in the library only. There are a good proportion of sports available in the sports room. Our sports room has table tennis, chess, carrom board, basketball for short area practice. Our college has its personal cricket team, basketball and football team with concerned experienced sports faculty. Mainly all societies are run by the seniors of college under the guidance of teachers.

Placement Experience:

Placements are available in college, the drive is quite extensive, everyone is made aware of the choices and options and counselling is present too. It is from the third year, students are eligible to apply for placements. Companies and organisations take part such as Niti ayog, Times, Geostrata, Prajatantra foundation, etc. Those who desire usually work on their CVs, keep on doi internships and then get a placement. The packages are not that impressive to be honest.

The course is really very interesting. It keeps up with our expectations. Involves both practical and theoretical aspects to make sure that we are able to face the real world. Also, with the help of the guidance that we get from teachers we're able to ace both the aspects. The examinations also are based on applications, thus, helping us to enhance ourselves in all possibilities.

I got a seat in Ramjas College. It is a north-campus college. The infrastructure is too good compared to the remaining colleges. The teaching also going well but I faced some language problems. I'm from south India so I don't understand Hindi properly. But here mostly they teach in Hindi only and English is used very rarely.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The course itself is prestigious and is mostly opted for by people who plan either on preparing for the Civil Services or those who want to pursue academia. The course structure is framed in a manner that you don't just simply study history there, but you ingrain a critical viewpoint of a young historian. The faculty of History Hons. has some of the best Professors in the University, although you will in any course at any college find some teachers below your expectations, you don't have to bear them for more than 1 or 2 semesters. Passing the exams is not very difficult, but yes scoring above average is. If you get a GPA ranging from 6 to 7, you've performed fine. Above that is considered a Very good performance in Hons. courses of Social sciences at Delhi University. there are semester exams every 5- 6 months
