Remarks
Since I was very much determined on opting for CSE branch in my home state college so I kept NIT Silchar, CSE as my first preference in the preference list which was followed by NIT Rourkela matellurgy and other six courses of NIT Silchar itself. At the first day of counseling, I got my first preferred course as mentioned and I didn't look for anything after and just locked my choice.
Course Curriculum Overview
As CSE branch has got very high placement record in this college, the average package is also preferably good enough (this yr it was 13.5LPA) and the highest package touched 41.5LPA. 1:88 is the faculty:student ratio. Faculties are very highly qualified, all have Phd and masters degree. Their teaching method is very good and prefers interactive methods to teach us topics. We basically have two exams, one mid-sem exam and the another end-sem at the end of a semester. And minor tests of every subjects are taken before both midsem and endsem exams. Exams are not very difficult, if you have clear understanding of the topics you can surely pass with very good numbers.
Internships Opportunities
Goldman Sachs, Amazon, Microsoft offers internships with a good stipend. Till now I haven't done any projects so I cannot say anything but projects such as development involved and others are highly preferred by companies.
Placement Experience
Arcesium, Goldman Sachs, Goibibo, Mastercard, HP, Oracle, Berger, Samsung, Facebook, Linkedin, Pepsico, Medlife, OYO, Dalmia, Pepsico, Wipro etc. The total number of jobs offered is 514 for 2020-21 session and total students were 597. Highest package offered was 41.86lpa and average package for cse was 13.86 lpa and overall was 8.85lpa. 80.32% was placed overall. Source: Training & Placement cell, NIT silchar.
Fees and Financial Aid
Fees structure for 1st yr was 144840 for students having family income greater than 5 lakhs, while 61006 for income greater than 1 lakh and less than 5 lakhs, 19840 for income less than 1 lakh and 19840 also for SC/ST/PWD category students. Generally, fees hike is not observed and you can expect a bit increase merely around 1k to 2k. The cost to study is very good. Here you would get financial assistance, scholarships and job opportunities for this course is very good.
Campus Life
Incandescense is the annual cultural festival of NIT Silchar and Technoesis is the annual tech fest. The former is being celebrated in the month of February while the latter takes place in October. NIT Silchar has the largest digital library in the whole of Asia so there should not be any kind of worry about the availability of books and journals. Classrooms are well equipped having all facilities. Sports and other activities are given high preference here, you will found many sports club that supports such activity. Social groups include Gyansagar, Eco-club, Illuminists, and many more that are run by students.
Hostel Facilities
In hostel rooms you will found a table, chair, bed with mattress, high-speed internet connection, electricity and balconies attached to most of the rooms. The outside view from the balcony or even from the terrace is exceptional. Meal quality is good enough, you will find good meals with desserts every day. Registration for the hostel is done along with college registration where you just need to opt for a hostel seat and it is affordable. The locality for PG rent is good enough.
