Remarks
Applied to IIT colleges like IIT-Bombay, IIT-Madras but could not clear the shortlist. Also applied to Birla Institute of Technology (BITS) & Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT) and secured a good score/rank, but I preferred Government college instead of private, and also there are various benefits of the IIT tag, so I chose IIT Roorkee. I am a General candidate, so I did not had any quota. Good rank in Jee-Advance, minimum 75% in 12th Boards are required criteria for admission. 1 day documentation process at the college itself is mandatory for new graduates.
Course Curriculum Overview
I am enrolled in Btech Mechanical 4 year Course. I loved the mechanical field, and IIT-R is one of the best institutes for it. Numerous faculties are available, with good qualifications like IIM, IIT graduates and working in various govt. Ministries. 4 exams are taken each semester, apart from quizzes, assignments. Exam difficulty levels vary from faculty to faculty. The course is overall good, some topics are taught in an old fashioned way, but it's changing with time.
Internships Opportunities
There is a good internship opportunity also with a good stipend of 1.5 Lakh/month to 10k/month provided by the company. Projects vary much from company to company. It offers a good experience of the sector.
Placement Experience
In the final year, students can have on campus placement. Various companies like Google, Microsoft, Jaguar etc from all sectors arrive on the campus. Avg package is around 14-16 lpa and almost all students get placements.
Fees and Financial Aid
Fees are lesser than top private institutions, and scholarships, benefits for best sophomore and underprivileged students makes it affordable. Jobs like teaching assistance, internships, paid projects are also available. Currently, I am doing by paid Internship at a well recognized company.
Campus Life
Fests, clubs, library, sports facility are top notch and popular in and around campus. Hostel rooms are bit old fashioned. New classrooms are recently made and too good. Various social groups are present on campus. I am involved in 3 such groups comprising technical and sports ones.
Hostel Facilities
Basic facilities of light, bed, water, food, wifi are provided by the campus. Meal quality is better as compared to other colleges. Registration and other processes are too easy to do. I am living in campus itself and not in PG. Rooms are small, old fashioned. New hostel is going to have better rooms.
