SUPRODIP DAS's Review On Meghnad Saha Institute Of Technology - [MSIT], Kolkata

Joint Entrance Examination, My score was 9218 in JEE merit list, Based on the score I was called for participating in counselling and I decided to opt for Electrical Engineering and I found this institute was having vacancy in the said course, it is one of the prominent college of Techno India group and directly managed by them only. Hence, I chose MSIT.

Course curriculum was purely framed by West Bengal University of Technology (W.B.U.T). Our college was registered under WBUT and followed their course structure only. Electives, practicals, training was in line with the university guidelines. Number of lectures, working hours, schedule of mock test, semester all were in line with the WBUT guidelines.

Internship were provided to very few persons that time we saw, because the college was very new that time and we were the 2nd batch of the students. The persons were selected for internship, all had good connection and reference from higher management. Their fee structures were not known to us.

In the year 2006, our college only arranged the Information Technology companies for placing students. We were not offered from any core companies. Almost 7 major IT company namely TCS, CTS, WIPRO, SASKEN, SATYAM, MBT etc. came for campus interview and there was no interview specifically for MSIT only. All Techno Group colleges came for interviewing process at Techno India building, Salt Lake, Kolkata.

There were some fixed program was conducted by college authority and students jointly. There was freshers welcome party, winter function, inter-college football, volley, cricket leagues. Also our college arranged annual festival every year was begun from year 2002 on wards. There was viswakarma puja in college workshop used to arrange by students of 1st year.

Fee structure was decided by West Bengal University of Technology (W.B.U.T) only. That period it was not so expensive, yearly we had to pay around Rs. 35000 including all. It was inclusive of College Tuition fees, library fees, exam fees etc. There was a refundable caution deposit of Rs. 5000 we had to pay during admission.

There was no loan facility, however if anyone could not able to pay his college / university fees within the schedule day, they extended the payment window for the particular student with valid reason of non payment.

Campus life we enjoyed very much. That time gender ratio was 70:30 only, now possibly it improved. The college had no dedicated sports ground for them, however, there was enough space within the campus for accommodating students, labs etc. We had no political influence within college at that time, also there was no differentiation based on gender, ethnicity, race etc.

College had no hostels managed by their own. We had to arrange separately. We had to pay Rs. 2700.00 to 3000.00 per month including food for sharing accommodation. Some pupil also opted for paying guests that also was chargeable in the tune of Rs. 2500 - 3000 per month for sharing accommodation basis.

We are not maintaining any formal alumni network, however currently we are linked through facebook only. We don't have any interaction with the college and college also didn't took care ever to form a formal alumni group.

It was frequent, because each 6 month interval we had to undergo for semester exams. Before semester exam, there were several unit tests were arranged by colleges as per the guidelines of West Bengal University of Technology (W.B.U.T). The schedule of semester exam, date time were fixed and arranged by West Bengal University of Technology (W.B.U.T) only.

All faculties, lecturers were qualified as per the guidelines of West Bengal University of Technology (W.B.U.T). They were recruited through proper channel. Some of the classes were conducted by visiting faculties, who were from prime reputed Universities / Institute. Their style of giving lecture and knowledge were far better than any in house faculty the college had that time.
