Remarks
I applied for VIT, SRM, and Thapar. I was getting CSE at SRM (KTR campus) but I chose Thapar because it has a better placement record and less crowd. It is also closer to my hometown. In 2020, the admissions were based on PCM marks instead of JEE percentile. The cutoff for CSE was 97% and for COE, it was 96% (Outside Punjab)
Course Curriculum Overview
My course is B.E. in COE (Computer Engineering). COE is one of the oldest and best branches of Thapar with an excellent placement record. The syllabus includes C, C++, OOPS, and DSA. After 4th semester, you can also choose electives based on your interest. We have a really good faculty. The teachers are friendly and enthusiastic about teaching their subjects. More than 60% of faculty hold a PhD degree. The exams are held twice in a semester - Mid Semester tests (MST) and the End Semester tests (EST), along with lab evaluations. We get a reading week before every exam.
Internships Opportunities
At Thapar, we have our own placement cell which assists students to find internships. For internships, companies like Walmart, Myntra, NXP come on campus and hire students as interns. Students of the COE branch get paid 20-40K per month as a stipend and are given pre-placement offers.
Placement Experience
Since there are around 750 students in COE, the competition is quite high. The highest salary package offered is 40 LPA and the average salary package offered for Computer branches is around 6-7 LPA. Companies like Amazon, Microsoft, Zomato, Tata Motors, JP Morgan, Samsung, Deloitte, Infosys, etc visit the campus for placements. Around 85% of students are placed every year by these companies.
Fees and Financial Aid
The fees for Thapar are very high which is a major disadvantage for Thapar when compared to other universities. One year fee is around 400000. Thapar provides many scholarships based on PCM marks and JEE percentile.
Campus Life
Various cultural and technical fests are organized in Thapar every year. 'Saturnalia' is an annual techno-cultural fest in Thapar. Another big event is the Thapar Food Festival. In addition, there are societies for dance, painting, photography, coding, robotics, public speaking, debates, etc to enhance the talents of students. The societies are always organizing some sort of events so you will never get bored. The campus is really beautiful. The classrooms and labs are well equipped with modern facilities and technology. The library is vast and it contains books on a wide range of subjects. There is also an online library facility provided to students during this Covid situation.
