Remarks

I applied for my college through JOSAA wherein my other liked possibilities were NIT Surathkal, NIT Warangal, IIT Roorkee and few others. Moreover, I had also written BITSAT and MET. With my marks getting admission into BITS Hyd and Manipal main campus were really feasible along with my branch being CSE. Yet I chose to go with Biotechnology in IITG because in my college no matter which branch you are in, you will be given equal opportunitie in all aspects. Moreover there are sevral clubs and groups to make sure that you get to do what you most like. The admission process was also really smooth as with most JOSAA availed colleges like NITs and IITs. And its needless to mention the admission criteria into the prestigious IITs is just the qualification of JEE Advanced.

Course Curriculum Overview

4.5

Well frankly I chose this course because my marks didnt make it feasible for me to opt for a higher branch. But I have no regrets moving forward as I still get to do what any other CSE student gets to do. I code full time along with my Minor degree in Product Design, which makes me love what I do. Yes, IITG lets you procure a minor degree which adds a lot of value to your future career. Coming to the qualification of faculty, every single faculty member in IITG has a PhD. Aditionally IITG is second in India in terms of citations/faculty. So clearly, the faculty here is highly competent. Needless to say their teaching methods are exceptional, and that is my review just from an online perspective. One would guess that their offline method of teaching must be just mind-blowing. Exams held in my college is pretty tough, as in there is no direct solution which can be found in any book or online. All the questions are framed by our faculty itself and it needs a good understanding of the topic.

Internships Opportunities

4.5

Internship opportunities are available from your 5th semester. There is an entire team devoted for this to make the procedure hassle-free and efficient. There are also prospects of summer internships, etc. The best part is in UDGAM (the annual entrepreneurship fest) even freshers and sophomores get to apply for several internships to get their hands dirty.

Placement Experience

5

Around 57% of students were placed this year through an online mode, which is a decline compared to the rpevious year owing to covid-19, The highest package offered was 70 LPA, while the average package was 21 LPA. Around 150 companies visited the campus, Microsoft and Adobe being the top recruiters. Although the placement virtues here seems lucrative, I would like to pursue higher studies and then pick up a job.

Fees and Financial Aid

Fees are pretty modest keeping in mind that IITs are institutes of national importance. For a general student, such as me, the tuition fees is 1L per semester. Hostel and mess fees combined add another 20-25 K. So all in all its around 2.5L per year which is really reasonable when you compare to private colleges whose per semester cost rise much higher than this value. I haven't received any scholarship per se, but there are extensive schemes to help the underprivileged. If you are doing you PhD over ehre you are also eligible for monthly stipends and more.

Campus Life

5

Well, I can't give an honest feedback in this aspect, considering I have spent only one month in campus in more than a year due to covid-19. But drawing from my short-lived experiences the campus life is vibrant. There are world-class sports facilities, including and not limited to cricket, football, tennis, badminton, hockey, etc. There is a vast four-storeyed central library along with libraries in each an every hostel. Additionally, there's seperate provisions for sports and music in every hostel, so don't worry if you cannot make the cut for various teams, you can still make use of all facilities. Moving onto the various fests, theres Techniche (Techno-management), Alcheringa (cultural), Udgam (enterpreunership), Spirit(Sports) and sevral other inter-hostel competitions like Spardha. Its really disheartening to be missing all of this to online semesters but one can only imagine the popularity of these fests, considering each one of these fests are the largest ones in entireNorth-east.

Hostel Facilities

4

IITG unlike its comrades provides single rooms for all boy residents, while two girls share a room. The rooms are pretty spacious considering they are providing single rooms. Basic amenities like bed, table, wardrobes, fan, light, and high-speed ethernet port are provided. There are no attached bathrooms but there's 24 hr provision of hot water. The mess food maintains good quality and hygiene but like mess food in every hostel, it gets mundane over time. Hostels are highly affordable, as they amount to around 6K per semester. Mess advance is almost 16K. So yes hostels in IITG are excellent, if not the best.

Other Applied Colleges

BITS Hyd | CSE

Preferred IITG for its vast alumni network and extensive opportunities.

Placements at IIT Guwahati are excellent especially in the tech field ,with high placement rates and strong average packages generally Rs 30 lakh per annum. Top companies regularly visit the campus. After completing the course if i do not get placed on campus which is hardly possible i'll look for other off campus placements.
