A College to Remember

The first cut-off for Political Science (Hons.) at Sri Venkateswara College, the University of Delhi for 2020 was 97.0, and all seats were filled in this list. We did not have a counseling session, and the college reviewed and accepted my application in a matter of two days. Given the pandemic, the admission procedure for DU was entirely online from registrations, documents verification, to allowing colleges. This year, students did not have to choose a particular college or stream; we were considered eligible for all streams and colleges contingent on meeting the respective cut-off .

The batch of 2023 in Political Science (Hons.) at Venky is a staggering number of 140+ students, including students who joined the college through quotas. Given this strength, we were divided in two sections for ease of teaching which has proved to be very efficient. I chose Political Science because I am keen on pursuing International Relations (IR) and diplomacy in the future. While it has been a trouble to conduct classes on a screen for a prolonged period of time, the faculty at SVC has followed a timely schedule for all classes, extracurricular activities, freshers' meet, alumni meet, elections, etc. The internal assessment was on the basis of assignments and class presentations, and the exam was conducted in OBE mode.

DIfferent types of internships are offered to students from all streams and semesters. Opportunities for content writer, digital designers, policy research, NGO vulteering, etc. are commonly given. The stipend structure is also very attractive.

The Placement Cell at SVC is extremely active throughout the year. It gives internship opportunities for students from the first semester till the last. These internship opportunities are very lucrative and provide a great learning experience. They also mostly have a stipend. Third-year students are also eligible to get placed in top companies across the world.

For me, the fees of my course at my college is very convenient. As compared to my friends in other colleges and courses (eg: Fashion designing), my course fee feels like a blessing. Given the opportunities and quality of education that Sri Venkateswara College provides to all its students, the fees is absolutely justified.

Nexus is the fest conducted by Sri Venkateswara College in the month of February every year. The fest is organized by the Fine Arts Association (FAA) which is the most sought-after club in the college. It is one of the most happening events around the year, not just for the college but for students from across the country. It is graced by the presence of eminent personalities from different walks of life. My. batch has unfortunately not been able to experience the typical college life yet, but I hope we get to share that with our newfound friends soon. Our library is stacked with reading material for courses and other auxiliary references that supplement our education. Venky is also known for the top quality sportspersons it yields, and we have access to sports like football, hockey, cricket, badminton, etc. The debating society (EDS) and the dance society (Verve) is a great addition.
