Remarks
I only applied to Thapar University, as it is a Private University that provides its students with many Curricular and non Curricular activities. According to Government rules, there is a limit to the number of seats that are allotted to Non-Punjab students, as there is a state quota for the in-state students. The Core branches fill very fast as they are the top preferences of every student, but the bar for IT branches like COE and CS is very high. the base criteria set at my time was 60% in PCM and the higher your JEE Mains Score the Higher are your chances for getting your desired stream/Branch. The admission process was very smooth, according to your marks, you are called for admission and the no. of seats available for any branch is displayed on the screen for everyone to see and therefore opt for one of the branches available.
Course Curriculum Overview
I was always wanted to understand working and designing better, it was very necessary for me to begin at the base,i.e, Mechanical Engineering. There used to be a big batch of 100 students to attend lectures of any subject but for lab and tutorials, separate subgroups were made of 25 students each. Most of the faculty members were Ph.D.'s but some also included Mtechs from various field knowledge and experience. The exams would take quarterly, as each semester is of 6 months, So each year we had 2 Midterm exams and 2 final Semester exams, Passing was that difficult as everything was taught in exams but even though it was taught one has to study for them to score well.
Placement Experience
For every Branch, the placement period varies, for some branches, it is 6th and 7th because they have their training semester as their final semester and for some, it is 7th and 8th Semester because they have their training semester in the 6th Semester. All the big and major MNC's of different Industries/Sectors come to pick students from Thapar. The highest package that I know of is 54lakhs per annum of a friend placed in Microsoft, though the average package varies from branch to branch, for the IT Sector branches the average goes around 10 lakhs for some it is 6 lakhs but not below that. Almost all the students are Sincere and hardworking towards their career and future.
Fees and Financial Aid
The First Semester tuition fees were 1,50,000 and as the students moved on to the next year the fees would also increase by 10%. The Hostel and Mess fees varied from hostel to hostel as every hostel had its own mess contractors. and according to the facilities too, e.g- AC or non AC, Single room or shared rooms. The scholarship was given at the time of admission to high jee scorers and to students who would come in the top 10% of their branch yearly CGPA from the even and odd exams also to overall achievers of the university.
Campus Life
There are many Fest that takes place in Thapar but the major one is Saturnalia. The Main Event of Thapar provides students with multiple activities and opportunities to enjoy. A Huge library with all sorts of books that you look and learn from but with a disadvantage of number as the number of course books available being very less compared to the number of students studying. Classrooms are fitted with projectors which helps not only the teachers but also the students to have a better learning experience at Thapar. As it makes understanding and sharing a concept easy. A running track, etc, football field, name any sports and you will find its court/field in Thapar.
Hostel Facilities
The level and facilities provided by a hostel depend, which hostel you have selected and so does the taste and menu of the Mess, but non of the hostels go below a 3-star hotel, they go above but non is below in terms of facilities and quality. As mentioned earlier the quality is good but even so, there is a difference in the taste of each hostel. Just like any hotel, the better the facility the higher will be the price. Since it is a well-developed City the locality is surrounded by parks and residential areas, therefore a wide variety of PG options are available depending upon any individual's budget.
