Remarks
I applied in Thapar University for lateral entry in mechanical engineering, They conduct a separate test for this. It was a dedicated respective subject engineering test. I chose Thapar from not a very broad list of colleges, but I surely had in my mind decided to pursue bachelors from here because of its huge reputation for the branch. The admision process was smooth, the Frosh society team makes sure the candidates are guided throughout the process and the parents who've come with them don't get burdened at all. I didn't get any quota but there was a Punjab quota for candidates who belong to Punjab. The admission criteria were simply 60% marks in diploma and 60% in matriculation. All in all, I felt Thapar to be a well-utilized expenditure on studies.
Course Curriculum Overview
I was interested in mechanical engineering so I decided to pursue this course. In The whole department every teacher was a pass out from respected IITs and some with major industrial experience too. Those who weren't from IITs, were international scholars. Exams and their fixed and timely format in Thapar and were mostly tough to crack but in the end, the relative marking system sorted things out.
Internships Opportunities
There is a dedicated semester for internships that is a six-month internship that is preferred to be undertaken in a company. Companies like Maruti Suzuki India limited Shriram Pistons Tata motors and many more came to recruit for internships the other students outsourced for companies like Gabriel Anand cnh etc.
Placement Experience
The highest package received was 42 lacs and the average package is 9 lakh in CSE the average package in mechanical was 6 lacs but I think now the average has been decreased because of covid-19 lot more less placements are being provided to students in mechanical engineering but the computer science branch placements was still performing very well. There was a record that Thapar placement team didn't even consider the company offering below 5 lpa but due to the harsh time of covid-19 as well as automobile sector partial shutdown Blue chip shortage and many other challenges the placements have been affected drastically
Fees and Financial Aid
Fees to be honest are quite high if you see it as an individual but if you compare it with other premier private institutions in Southside, it's basically the same. The high fees is compensated by world-class infrastructure and we'll qualified professors Annually different scholarships are distributed to students in academics starting from 1.5 lakhs
Campus Life
There is absolutely no nightlife in Thapar except the time of fests. Saturnalia, oorja, and many more fests are organized in Thapar all year long. The newly constructed Nava Nalanda Library is the main attraction of the college, it's a 5 Storey building with books, study tables, and conference rooms.in Thapar, you'll never get bored because at all times some of the other activities will be going on.
Hostel Facilities
Hostels in Thapar are like a 5-star hotel stay. They've all the required amenities and quality food. Hostels fees are paid half-yearly but if you see the breakdown it's very affordable than a PG outside. I would never recommend taking a pg until the last semester. Meals are mostly well cooked, they have a varied menu and every hostel has its specialty. There are total of 9 boys hostels and 5 girls hostels. They all are humongous.
