Remarks
So, I applied for this college through UTU counseling other than this I applied for College of Technology, Pantnagar and also participated in Josaa counseling for IITs/NITs but didn't got my desired seat of CS, IT or ECE in any of them. So as it is one of the best state government institution here I applied for it. In first round of counseling I got Electrical then in the 2nd round I got ECE and then in 3rd round there was no updation to CSE although I wanted it. So I went with my documents to the institute to lock my seat. I got 144502 rank in JEE, the starting rank in our branch is 72000 and after 3rd round students with approximately 200000 rank got admission and that would be the minimum rank for ECE. Admission process was simple were you have to bring your marksheet and other documents of 12th class along with a printout of seat allocation then they would provide you with a registration form, you fill that and submit the fees along with form and you got your admission.
Course Curriculum Overview
So ECE is a quite diverse course which provides ample opportunity in three domain- firstly in Electronics itself then most of the subject we study are common to electrical engineering so you can get a opportunity with them and most importantly for me it also have some subjects common to CSE which provides us opportunity in IT industries. Most of the faculties are PhD holder and some assistant professor are Mtech but are currently pursuing their PhD along with teaching. Faculty to student ratio is decent now as lot of hiring has taken place recently, the ratio is 1:12. Every semester has 5 month of overall time as in July and January college is closed after semester exams. So within a semester there are 2 internals at a break of 2 month each, last month goes completely to practicals and semester exam. The faculty is really poor in this concern, although the passing is 33% which is less but they make it really difficult to pass even then and the teaching techniques used are pretty old.
Internships Opportunities
As I have mentioned before the college provide internship mostly in BSNL in 2nd year and also organise a 15 day industrial training in 3rd year in Goa and other parts of South India but non of this internship is paid hence their is no stipend. The companies visiting our campus are SiFive, MTX, Zscaler, TCS, Wipro, Infosys, etc where SiFive has provided with the highest package of 8 LPA till now. Our main college project is made in my current or in the 7th semester and the project which I'm working on is 5g devices using MIMO antenna.
Placement Experience
So the placements in ECE in our college is average mostly 30-35 student i.e. 50% student get placed every year. As I'm in my final year my Placement is going on and the highest package is offered by SiFive Technologies of 8 LPA for FPGA engineer, the lowest package was that of 3 LPA offered by Rubico IT and average package is somewhere between 4-4.5 LPA. The placement cell doesn't help students much in their preparation for placements but they do provide 1 internship mostly in BSNL in 2nd year and also organise a 15 day industrial training in 3rd year in Goa and other parts of South India. My plans currently is to get a job in IT sector or non core sector and to work in this field only after graduation.
Fees and Financial Aid
The fees of the college is quite considerate and affordable but as the institute has become autonomous their has been fee hike recently. Tuition fees- ?32000 approximately, Hostel fees- ?2480 and Mess fees- ?12000 per semester. But still if a student belong from economically backward class 10% of seats i.e. 6 seats are reserved for TFW (Tuition fee waiver) which cut down the tuition fees and you have to pay hostel and mess fees only. Other than that college helps every such student in availing scholarship from NSP (National Scholarship Portal) and finally if you can't avail any of them the bank in the college campus provides education loan through which you can continue your studies here. Finally for the job or placement, the placements are average around 50% of students get placed in ECE, where usually the highest package is 8-10 LPA, lowest is 2.5-3 LPA and average around 4 LPA. Their is not must assistance from placement cell other than they inform about the company few days early.
Campus Life
Campus life is pretty good in the college as their are some events or fest arranged on a timely basis along with some clubs to participate in. Their are 3 fest namely the Annual fest (Goonj) arranged in 1st or 2nd week of April, The Technical Fest (Spandan) just before the annual fest and Sports Fest (Josh). Each of this fest takes place over 2-3 days and the environment during this time is great and cheerful. Coming to the clubs their are some clubs not many and some of the famous ones are the Third Button Studio (Acting and Photography Club), Abhivyakti (Drama Club), Literature Club, etc. Coming to the facilities, the classrooms are big and have decent facilities, Library have a lot books but need some new addition of books, labs lacks new technologies. Sports facilities are decent with 2 grounds for sports like cricket, football, athletics, Kabaddi, etc and 2 indoor complex for sports like table tennis, badminton, etc but still lacks basketball court.
Hostel Facilities
So we are provided rooms in a structured manner for boys where you get a almirah, a cot, a desk and a chair and you get to live with 3 other roommates with you in first year, 2 roommates in 2nd year, 1 roommate in 3rd year and you get a single room in final year. For the quality of food to be honest is not good but eventually the quality of foods get better in the 3rd and final year and if you still don't like it their are several small cafes and restaurants in the campus. Although hostels are not difficult to get as enough space are available in hostels but few of the students who come from nearby localities or cities such as pauri have the choice to not opt for college and to live with their families or in PG in the nearby villages. The main issues with hostel is the dampness in the rooms and power cuts during bad weather, it takes days sometimes to get electricity back along with a issue of weak wifi connectivity to every room of the hostels, this is also a very big issue.
