Remarks

Since SBSEC is a college under DU, there is no entrance exam for admission [though from 2022 the admission is going to do through an entrance exam]. One has to clear the required merit lists [Around 5 merit lists comes out]. Everything related to the application process is held online. One can check the official portal of DU, from the application form to fees to dates. There are reservations for OBC, SCs & STs. Also, some college like mine has a reservation for girls though it is only applicable to girls who to general category. Well, I was quite happy with the process. It was smooth and hassle free. Everyone was helpful. And due to pandemics, the process has become easier as everything is done online without one is to go around the college campuses.

Course Curriculum Overview

3.5

I chose my course because I had a keen interest in viewing topics from different perspectives. I liked being a critical thinker which political science as a subject provides me. My department has the best professors [though not all] available as they always work for the betterment of students [ Being in my last year I can assure you that]. The year I got admission, two sections were made and each has a strength of 80 students. Professors are highly qualified. Almost every professor has done a PhD and some from abroad. Though there are some upsetting professors whom I would say lack teaching methods some are exceptionally good [trust me their teaching will make up for the worse ones]. Since exams are held according to the university schedule, there were no delays. Every exam was held on time with proper gaps between them. Lastly, I can't comment on the difficulty level of the exams because it totally depends on the student's way of studying and hard work.

Internships Opportunities

3.5

Like I said Political science is not a field where you can expect to get a 9 to 5 job right after completing your graduation. It is a dynamic course where mostly internships are available also that too unpaid most of the time. Getting a job through the placement cell, I don't think so my college provides that in political science [if your sole purpose is getting the job right after graduation then mate opt for another college]. Nevertheless, there are internships opportunities like NHRC and being a content writer & editor for a company and many more. As in my third year, I'm still exploring. Overall SBSEC is a fantastic college for learners and explorers.

Placement Experience

3

Well, if the truth to be said, as my course is political science honours and my college is known mostly for commerce, I haven't seen many political science students placed instantly after graduation because let's accept it every political science student [ok not every] want to be a government service. So mostly people opt for further studies like M.A Or law but never mind there are internship opportunities for which one can apply accordingly. However, Students get eligible for such opportunities only in their last year of graduation which is the 5th & 6th Semester for B.A. students. Nevertheless one can totally do internships by finding by themselves. Well, I plan to continue my studies and do more internships possible rather than hunting for jobs hardly available in this field after graduation.

Fees and Financial Aid

The fee structure is very affordable [Well common it is the central university College!]. The fee for my course is divided between annual and examination. Annually one has to pay 6457 + 1020 as an examination fee which includes two semester 510 for each semester. Well, being an introvert I didn't go around looking for a scholarship. Also, the fee for me was very affordable so I don't have any clear idea about it but the college does provide financial assistance for economically weaker sections. It is just that you have to go through a bit of the document process [ can't give a clear idea because I was not eligible]. Since I'm in my third year and still looking for internships or jobs, I can't comment much but the placement cells do provide for many options the interested one can apply according to the required eligibility.

Campus Life

4.5

OK, first come first! Well, college is about 'fun'. Each of us, I hardly doubt, couldn't imagine college without fest, freshers party and exploring societies. So to sum up, I would say "YES" SBSEC does organize a number of fests as every department has its own fest. Then there are college fests where you can visit others colleges too to attend their fests. Trust me when I say SBSEC has its perks of fun. You got a hell of a lot of things to explore! Coming to societies, there a number of societies for dance enthusiasts to Nataunki students to debating society for critical thinkers to NSS & NCC [including for girls] and to WDC for people who want to work for women empowerment. There are numerous other societies that I can't remember right now though. Then there is a huge resourceful library, filled with every book one requires. And not only course books, obviously though, every genre of the novel available too.

Placements are available in college, the drive is quite extensive, everyone is made aware of the choices and options and counselling is present too. It is from the third year, students are eligible to apply for placements. Companies and organisations take part such as Niti ayog, Times, Geostrata, Prajatantra foundation, etc. Those who desire usually work on their CVs, keep on doi internships and then get a placement. The packages are not that impressive to be honest.

The course is really very interesting. It keeps up with our expectations. Involves both practical and theoretical aspects to make sure that we are able to face the real world. Also, with the help of the guidance that we get from teachers we're able to ace both the aspects. The examinations also are based on applications, thus, helping us to enhance ourselves in all possibilities.

I got a seat in Ramjas College. It is a north-campus college. The infrastructure is too good compared to the remaining colleges. The teaching also going well but I faced some language problems. I'm from south India so I don't understand Hindi properly. But here mostly they teach in Hindi only and English is used very rarely.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The course itself is prestigious and is mostly opted for by people who plan either on preparing for the Civil Services or those who want to pursue academia. The course structure is framed in a manner that you don't just simply study history there, but you ingrain a critical viewpoint of a young historian. The faculty of History Hons. has some of the best Professors in the University, although you will in any course at any college find some teachers below your expectations, you don't have to bear them for more than 1 or 2 semesters. Passing the exams is not very difficult, but yes scoring above average is. If you get a GPA ranging from 6 to 7, you've performed fine. Above that is considered a Very good performance in Hons. courses of Social sciences at Delhi University. there are semester exams every 5- 6 months
