Remarks

Ranked as one of the best commerce colleges in Kolkata. It was the first college that I got admission into and it suited my CA tution timings then. I was selected in SXC but since it has a evening batch for girls, I didn't think it to be suitable for my professional course. Also, the fees for J.D. Birla was to be paid within 24hours and is non refundable. Apart from that, the campus has certain facilities too like the library has about 18000 books, 39 national and international journals, magazines etc. It also has membership with the American centre and British council. The campus has a utility store which provides stationary, snacks etc. The placement options are good as well with companies like Earnst and Young, Wipro etc. It has many seminars and events. The college also organises an annual picnic, sports and fest. It also celebrates Saraswati Puja, Independence day and have many health checkups too.

Course Curriculum Overview

After my batch, the system has been changed and updated. They now follow the CBCS system that is recommended by UGC. For our batch, we get to choose our specialisation in 3rd year: Finance, Marketing and HR. The students are evaluated on internal evaluation which comprises of 40% and end semester examination which comprises of 60%. In case a student didn't have accounts or mathematics in their plus two, a bridge course will be mandatory for them in the first semester. We are taught Business Law, Business mathematics and statistics, Financial Accounting, Cost Accounting, Audit, Tax and Management subjects.

Placement Experience

3.5

The placement cell provides assistance to students for placements. Various companies have recruited students and conducted in campus interviews. The organisations where students undergo their internship also hire after their graduation. The companies are as follows- WIPRO, Earnst and Young, HSBC, Deloitte, PWC, Indigo, Godrej, L&T, Capital First(now IDFC Bank), Linc, Genpact, Pabrai's, etc.

College Events

2.5

We have an annual commerce fest called Commercio Conclave which takes place usually during September and October. About 14 colleges participate in about seven events evaluated by a jury of eminent people. This fest is organised only by the commerce students. We also have a cultural fest called Verve. This is organised by both the science and commerce student. We participate in most of the fests organised by other colleges in events like sports, business and marketing events, one act plays, fashion show, etc. We have an annual sports day wherein we have many races. We also have an annual day where students perform and various awards are given. We also have a picnic, women day celebration, independence day celebration and saraswati puja celebration in college. We have had seminars and counseling. Our college has three wings under National Social Service(NSS) under the banner of Jadavpur University. A lot of activities are conducted throughout the year under NSS.

Campus Life

The library is quite huge and has a good collection of books, journals, magazines, newspapers etc. It also has computers which helps the students to search for resources available at internet annexed rooms. It also has a photocopy facility. We have teams for various sports like basketball, football, cricket, throwball, tug of war, etc. A ground is available for badminton and indoor games like chess and carrom is available. The classes are equipped with projectors and air-conditioners. Wifi is available for college research etc. Computar labs are also available with internet access. A common area for students, called the recreational area is also available. There is also a canteen which provides fast food, tea and coffee. An auditorium is also there where seminars are held. We also have an infirmary and each student is covered by accidental insurance as well.

I don't have idea about the placements since I'm in first year now. But I talked to a senior and got to know that many got multiple offers in 4th year. I also head that packages are around 4 lpa which is a decent and also a rise than the previous year.

Placement Experience:

The campus placements happen in final year of the course. There is a well established placement cell to conduct the on-campus placements. Many well renowned companies visit our college namely Microsoft, Google, TI, TSL, PWC, ICICI, ABG. L&T, etc. The highest package was 50LPA and the average was around 9LPA. Over 90% students got placed from across every department and details of the placement is also available in the college official website. I have gotten a job from the on-campus drive to a core company.

Companies coming to campus like TCS,Wipro,Deloitte,Biocon,Pfizer. 4. Placement Experience:

The placements of our college are below average. Studies for placement are more or less relevant from second semester. companies like tcs, amazon etc do visit our campus however very few are selected with package above 4-5 LPA. Most of the students seek out for higher studies and that's my plan too.

Course Curriculum Overview:

It's my decision from class 12 that I will do civil engineering, so I chose the civil branch, the course curriculum is well and the teaching level is good but the main problem is lab, there is very limited classes for lab, so I think they should improve there.

Placement Experience:

After the 6th semester, the students are eligible for placements. Mass recruiters like TCS, Wipro, Infosys, Accenture, Capgemini, etc visit every year and pick up 80-100 students per company. Other companies like Amazon, Thoughtworks, Etc also visit the college. The highest package offered by our college is 15LPA by Thoughtworks. Every year around 75-80% of students get placed on campus. I plan to get a good job work for 2-3 years and then apply for Masters. Overall the placement is very nice in this college.
