Details of IIT GUWAHATI

My main aim was to get an IIT because there are a plethora of opportunities here. So the eligibility criteria is - you have to qualify to jee mains and then you will be eligible for jee advanced exam, if you get a rank under 12000 you could secure a seat in an IIT. Since i met this criterion so i got a seat in IIT GUWAHATI, Civil engineering department. After the jee advanced exam you need to go through a councelling process conducted by JOSAA. During the councelling process if you get a seat in any round then you have to pay 35000 to JOSAA and your documents are verified by the authorities. After the councelling process, you are allocated a seat and after then you have to pay the rest amount to your respective college. Improvement in terms of sticking to the schedule must be implemented since the councelling results are delayed for 2 days nearly for every round.

I decided to join this course because I am interested in the Civil engineering course. Faculties here are very well qualified and all of them hold a Ph.D. degree. The teaching method is very good since they explain each and everything widely and asking doubts is very seamless and we almost get satisfied with the solution they provide. In a semester there are 2 quizzes and one mid-sem exam and an end-sem exam.

Internships start right from the first year. Also internships are offered in the 3rd year. Companies like Raaho, Clickerestore, Housewife, Fundsroom investment services, etc offer internships. Average stipend for 1st year I know it is around 17k.

From 8th semester onwards students become eligible for campus placements. Many tech giants like Microsoft, Adobe, Walmart, atlassian, google, Uber, etc visit the campus. Also many non tech profiles like business consultant, product management, financial advisor, etc are offered to the students. No. Of offers made was 530. Highest domestic package was 1.2 crores and highest international package was 2.5 crores. Placement percentage fir BTech students is 87.52%. I will aim for CAT after getting my degree.

The fees structure in my opinion is decent enough since every student gets various opportunities to grab scholarships. Various schemes like NSP and Panasonic ratti chhatr, etc are there for financial help.

Our annual fest is ALCHERINGA which is the biggest annual fest of North East India with a footfall of 70000 students. ALCHERINGA is held in the month of February. Our tech fest is TECHNICHE. It is held in the month of January. Here the Library is huge and a vast variety of books are available. In IIT Guwahati there is a cricket ground, football ground, badminton court, tabke tennis, etc. There are also many events of sports. Coding club, Finance and Economics club, consulting and analytics club, robotics club, spicmacay(which promotes Indian classical music and culture) .

Each student is provided a single room right from the first year. Each student is given a LAN connection in their room. Meal quality is just decent, nothing amazing. There is a form in which you have to fill in the details for securing a room in the hostel.
