How's IIT Patna for your academics

IIT Patna has been rated as an institute of national importance by the government of India. It is not only known for its excellent academic offerings but also for the premium alumni getting placed after graduation. It was one of the universities in my list to study in after 12th grade, and I secured a seat because of my decent rank in JEE main. The admission procedure of IIT Patna can either be offline by getting the form from the university gateway or by online means. However, filling it online makes it easy and more feasible for the student. The form contains the details like general identity confirmation, JEE main and JEE advanced ranks, extra curricular participation, other achievements and scores of SSC and HSC. The JEE Advanced cutoff rank for civil engineering is 18205 for females and 12184 for males in open category. The student should have scored a minimum of 85% in the 12th examination and 80% in the 10th examination. However, the university also considers marks of technical subjects like Physics and mathematics over other elective subjects and performance.

The course curriculum of IIT Patna in the Civil Engineering department contains a major chunk of mathematics in the syllabus. Topics. Apart from the that management and technology take up the latter part of the curriculum. It involves modules like Probability, linear programming, Mechanics of Solids and fluids, Geotechnical and environmental engineering, Structural analysis of concrete and steel, and laboratory experiments in environmental engineering. We got a lot of case studies and surveys to take over as a part of our assignments. In civil engineering, assignments held a lot of weightage since the major elective is all about practicality and experiments. Moreover, the staff and faculty is extremely well-educated and trains the candidates in the most pristine manner. The faculty student ratio is 9:1 which helps students gain the undivided attention of the professors.

In my year of study, IIT Patna had a record of 91% placements. Companies visiting the campus included google, adobe, Atlassian, Accenture, etc. Six students. A total of 313 jobs were offered and 245 students were able to bag them. The highest package offered was 61lakh while the median package stood at 49Lakh. Some students already received a Pre-placement offer during the time when students were placed in the different summer internships. Other companies involved were Smartcoin, Larson and Toubro, Zomato, Oyo rooms, Tata digital, etc. Companies were known to recruit engineers with a previous internship experience of at-least 3 months and some non-technical skills as well.

The university offers both in-house and external scholarships to the students for need-based and merit-based requirements. For SC students, candidates having an annual family income of less than 6 lakh is eligible for this scholarship. A total of 12 slots are reserved for this. Merit-based scholarship included students scoring above the 80th percentile. . However, the income ceiling for this is 8 lakh. Apart from this, students having more than 75% attendance, are awarded scholarship of 10,000 to undergraduate level and 20,000 to postgraduate level.

Opposite to what is perceived about the tedious academic life of IIT Engineers, the campus life at IIT Patna was very cheerful and relaxing. The institute has a ground base of 10 acres which is pretty spacious. The main building houses the dean's office and the central library. The laboratories include the dynamics lab, fluid mechanics lab, Material testing lab, Metrology and Metallography Lab, Robotics lab, and polymer engineering lab. It even has collaborations with abroad universities like the National University of Singapore, Lousiana State University, University of Texas, and many other such reputed institutions. The flagship sports event is organized every year called Infinito.
