Remarks
The eligibility for the course is 12th pass (PCM) with an aggregate above 65%. Admission process starts in May and is done through IMU-CET which is an online common entrance test for all IMUs. The form costs around 1000 and is available on the official website of IMU. Standard reservation criteria are followed which gives benefit in marks scored by reserved category candidates. Cut-off marks depend on the number of participants each year. The admission process is quite well organised with all details being provided on the official website of Indian Maritime University.
Course Curriculum Overview
Marine engineering is a way to make a career in the merchant navy industry as an engineering officer. Almost all the major faculty are ex-sailors so it is quite an experience to learn from people having vast experience in the industry themselves. The course is divided into 8 semesters.
Placement Experience
Companies start taking placement exams in the 6th semester. Anglo-eastern, fleer management, and MSC are top industry leaders hiring directly from campus interviews. These companies provide paid training as cadets onboard merchant ships paying around 500-900 USD per month. After completing training and receiving coc salary is increased up to 2500-3000 USD. At the time of completion, of the course, almost all the eligible students are placed.
Fees and Financial Aid
The fee is reasonable which is around 10 lakh for the complete course including a hostel as this course is a residential programme. The scholarship is provided on the basis of marks and rank scored in the semester exam.
Campus Life
The annual fest 'Tempest' is organised every year in the month of November. There is a fully air-conditioned library inside the college building having all types of study material for the maritime industry. Classrooms are equipped with projectors for a better learning experience. There is a number of different sports (Cricket, football, hockey, basketball, volleyball etc.) played on the campus. The campus has a stadium-size ground to play at.
