Remarks
Eligibility includes only one thing. You should be an army ward to be admitted into this college. (not the Navy, not Air Force). You are selected on the basis of merit in Jee Main exam of the same year. The Application form can be filled out from the site aitpune.com (college site). All the seats are reserved for Army wards. there are a few extra seats for J&K students (army wards only). The Admission process is very smooth (consider the name).
Course Curriculum Overview
I choose this course because of my interest in computer science and coding. In 11th also I opted for c++ instead of Hindi. In a class, there will be 60 students. students will be divided into three equal batches. Batches are for practicals. So, there are 20 students and 2 teachers(including a lab assistant) during practicals. some teachers are good, some are not. but overall most of them look qualified. Although this college is affiliated with Savitribai Phule Pune University, there is a significant reservation for Marathi staff. exams are timely, although during covid they literally messed up. in one sem we gave no exams and in the other, we gave four exams plus two practical exams.
Internships Opportunities
good companies come for internships but take in a limited number. companies include Deutsche bank(75K/month), BNY Mellon(70K/month), Cohesity(1.2L / month), Credit Suisse(75k/month), CRED(1L/month) and many others ( with stipends ranging from 10K- 50K/ month). There are special classes for Rahul sir from the second year that is solely based on projects. One can learn a lot from those classes. Rahul sir teaches everything from scratch. My internship experience was not good. Of all the rounds that I gave, I cleared only Cohesity's first round. I was not selected in the end for an internship in any company. That was quite an eye-opener for me. But in the placement, I got placed in the first company that visited our campus ( Deutsche bank - 19.63 LPA)
Placement Experience
From the 5th semester, students become eligible for campus placement. Although for the Third year they can only sit for Intern. Final Placement starts in July of last year, just after the end semester exam of the third year. A few companies that come to the campus are- Deutsche Bank, BNY Mellon, Credit Suisse, Amazon(sometimes), Cred(last 2 times), Cohesity, HSBC, Turtlemint, Dhruva, UBS, Avalara, Commvault, ZS Associates, etc. most of the times higher packages are taken by students through off campus. The highest package offered was last year by Amazon Dublin (off-campus) at 1.12 Crore. most of the time companies offered SDE roles for computer and IT students. sometimes even electronics. As for mechanical they offer consultant roles. the lowest placement is for mechanical around 7 LPA avg. and not all are placed (around 80-85% placed). highest is of comp around 12-13 LPA avg. (almost all 95-100%). I plan to get into the IT industry and leave a footprint.
Fees and Financial Aid
fee hike policy is absurd. on average fee is increased by 20k every year. (had it not been for covid the fees now would be very high). just to give a basic idea, my brother got admitted in 2014 for 180K and I got admitted in 2019 for 280K. there are various scholarships. to name a few- ESSA AWES, Merit cum, Open Merit, scholarships for girls, PMSS scholarship, etc. I am placed in Deutsche Bank with 19.63 CTC. I was unable to crack intern in my third year. the companies provide interns for limited number of students and not for all. But placement is fine. Almost 90-95 percent of students are placed every year.
Campus Life
There are 22 clubs including 2 Boards (technical Board and cultural Board). The clubs include a cycling club, Fine arts club, Robotics Club, ECell ( entrepreneurship cell ), competitive coding club, Open source software club, ISDF (information security and digital forensics), etc. About fest, we have a tech fest, Aakriti (interbranch competitions), solution, PACE(for sports), Amethyst (cultural ), Innerve (hackathons), and few more. Also sometimes nature clubs take us to various tourist spots. So overall it is good. Regarding the infrastructure, we have almost every sport including Cricket, Football, Lawn Tennis, Badminton, Snooker, kabaddi, Kho-Kho, Volley-Ball, Squash, and Basket-Ball. We also have a Gym inside our facility. there are tournaments held by seniors for juniors to enhance interaction. tournaments include friendly cricket matches, football matches, basket ball matches, kabaddi and volley ball. other than sports, clubs constantly perform some group activities like coding.
Hostel Facilities
I live in hostel only. For the first year it is mandatory to live in hostel and after that it's based on your choice. So, in general there are 13 singlets per 60 students and rest are triplets. There are a few doublets but only in first year hostel. Initially singlets are awarded based on branch and merit and in the subsequent years based on academics and attendance. As for the meal, It's the best thing about AIT that meal is top quality and they maintain hygiene of high order while serving. The mess fees is included in the hostel fees. In total 1 lack ( mess + hostel ). As for how to apply for hostel: At the end of each year, you are required to mail the hostel form to the warden stating whether you want the hostel or not. Even though I live inside hostel, I pretty much have good understanding of accommodation outside of campus. My few friends live outside hostel(in DIGHI). it's around 1 Km from main campus. overall I believe they spend same amount as we do, just less restriction.
