IIT Guwahati overall review

If you want to take admitted to this college for a B.Tech degree you have to clear the jee advanced examination held by one of the 7 IITs. you must pass the JEE Main examination with a minimum cut-off of 85 to 95 percentile for the general category 65 to 75 percentile for the OBC and EWS categories 40 to 50 percentile for the SC categories and 30 to 40 percentile for ST categories to sit for the jee advanced examination. JEE main exams are held twice once in January and once in April. you can appear in either of them or both. If you appear in both your final score will be higher of two. The JEE Advance examination is held in June. After the examination, josaa handles the counseling procedure, you will need to fill out a list of colleges that you want and they will assign you based on your ranking. There will be reservation benefits 10% of seats are reserved for EWS,27% for obc and 15% for SC,7.5% for ST in the IIT. Application fee for Mains is Rs 500, for advanced Rs. 2500.

I have chosen mechanical engineering because it was the best branch I could get based on my rank. It is a course with lots of courses on thermodynamics mechanics and design. The courses are slightly difficult, you have to learn carefully. The professors are lenient except for some. There will be quizzes, assignments, projects, midterms, and finals in a semester and a single course. You will have to handle a total of 6 to 7 courses in semester examinations will be tough you have to score nearly 50% for a better grade.

There are also good opportunities for internships. There are following companies and roles offered: DeShaw: SDE, JPMC: SDE, Sprinkler: SDE, JaneStreet: Analyst, Oracle: SDE, Texas: Analog Engineering Role, Digital Engineering Role, Uber:SDE, Microsoft: SDE, Google: SDE, Goldman Sachs: SDE, etc. All the companies mentioned above provide a stipend more than 1.5 lakh per month. Tata Steel, Bajaj: Core for mechanical (40,000 per month). Many companies visited campus like Jio, BNY Mellon, Walmart, Nutanix, UI Path, salesforce, QAR capital, American express, wells Fargo,intuit, cisco, indeed, etc. for the SDE role. These companies provide stipends between 50 thousand to 1 lakh per month. Some of the projects used by students in their CVs are personal projects and some are course projects.

The overall placement of the college is very good. The placement begins in the 7th semester and ends before the beginning of the 8th semester. More than 85% of the students in every branch got placed in good companies. 180 companies visited campus in 2021-22 making a total of 1256 offers. Some of the big companies that visited campus are Google, Microsoft, Adobe, Dshaw, etc. The highest placement salary paid in 2021-22 was Rs 1.2 crore (international package) whereas, the average salary was Rs 25.88 lac. The profiles offered by companies are software development, analyst, web developer, etc. My plan after getting my degree is to work in a big tech company as a software developer.

The cost of starting at IITG is nearly Rs 1lakh and 35 thousand per semester which includes tuition fee, hostel fee, examination fee, and all other fees if you belong to a family whose total income is less than Rs 1 lakh then your total tuition fee of Rs 1 lakh will be waived and if your family income is between Rs 1 lakh and 5 lakh, then 2/3rd of your total tuition fee will be waived. There are lots of scholarships like institute merit scholarships, institute merit-cum-means scholarships, and SC-ST scholarships. Institute merit scholarships are given to branch toppers, institute merit-cum-means scholarships are given based on performance and family income whereas SC-ST scholarships are given to a student who belongs to SC- the ST category based on their performance and family income.

The annual fest of the college is "Alcheringa" which is held in February and the technical fest is "Techniche" which is held in November. There is a big Central Library on campus with a lot of journals, books, e-book, etc. It is a fully air-conditioned, unlimited Wi-Fi, 4-story building. Most of the classes are standard and fully AC with Wi-Fi facilities. There are numerous grounds for various outdoor sports such as cricket, hockey, volleyball, basketball, etc. There are also sports rooms and gym rooms inside every hostel. There will be a sports festival, inter-hostel competitions, and many other cultural activities. There are various clubs like the coding club, the robotics club, the E-Cell club, the Athletics Club, the social service club, etc. for overall development.
