Remarks
To apply for engineering in a national-level institute like every other fellow I needed to appear for JEE MAINS in 2020 which consists of 3 subjects PCM(Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics).JEE is conducted by NTA twice a year around Jan and April when lakhs of students appear every year so to grab a good seat in NITs and other top tier 1 and 2 colleges you need to score a decent percentile. The applications for this exam are available on NTA's website every year a month back from the exam. The fee to appear for this exam for boys(General/OBC) is 650 and that for girls and SC/ST/PWD is 325. The cut-off difference between general and SC/ST is very high. The closing percentile for general in 2020 for NITs was 90.4, 70.2 for gen EWS, 50.1 for SC, and 39 for ST. Now talking about improvements in the admission process, I think the admission should be based on subjects that would be relevant to our interests for students who want to pursue CS papers should consist of related subjects.
Course Curriculum Overview
I had been a computer enthusiast since childhood so I selected the course Computer Science and Engineering. This course comprises all the important computer fundamentals like Data Structures, Design, Analysis of algorithms, DBMS, OS, OOPS, etc that a software developer is expected to know. Although there are a total of nearly 150 students in CSE each classroom strength is around 70. The faculty is highly qualified and most of them are doctorates in their particular areas of teaching. Every year the exams are conducted accordingly as mentioned in the academic calendar. The level of each paper is mostly low to moderate and everything is based on things taught in the classroom so it's not very difficult to score a decent cgpa for one who is aware of what is going out in the classroom.
Internships Opportunities
The companies like Google, Mathworks, Amazon, Microsoft, Samsung, Paypal, Trilogy, etc, and various core companies that visit for placements also offer two months of internships to third-year students mostly with an average of 70000-80000 INR per month. For clarifying the rounds one should have a sound resume with multiple related good projects and also deeper knowledge of the related subjects that are needed to clear the subsequent rounds like OA rounds and interview rounds.
Placement Experience
Students become eligible for campus placements at the beginning of the 7th semester. Big-notch companies like Google, Amazon, Microsoft, AWS, Trilogy, Samsung, and Texas as well as various start ups like Olx, PayPal visited this year with around 90% of students in CSE already being placed, and various other core companies also visited with students of other branches also being placed in good numbers. In CSE the highest package for SDE roles is around 39 lakhs per annum and the average is around 20 lakhs per annum whereas in other branches the average is around 8-9 lakhs per annum for core profiles. My plan is to grab a placement and work in an SDE role in a big-notch company after getting the degree.
Fees and Financial Aid
The tuition fees per semester for a general student whose annual family income is above five lakhs is nearly INR 70000 and for those below five lakhs and above one lakhs is around INR 25000 and for students below one lakh margin the semester fees are nearly INR 8000. For SC and ST it is around INR 5000 per semester. Based on caste, state and different levels of family income students avail various amounts of either central or state scholarships. The opportunity for scholarships for general students with a higher level of family income is rare. Being an OBC candidate and having a family income of above five lakhs I still managed to avail NEC merit central scheme Scholarship which gives around INR 22000 annually.
Campus Life
In our college two grand fests are being organized in a year. One is the technical fest "Aayam" which is held in November and another is the cultural fest "Moksha" which is held in April. Our campus has a grand library consisting of multi floors and one digital library with all sorts of facilities and it is sounded with different sorts of books and journals, magazines, novels, etc. Each classroom is well furnished with proper electrical amenities for comfort as well there is a projector in every class for better and clear teaching. Every year a lot of events are organized in sports complexes like Parakram and various others where inter-year competitions are being held. There is a NITA Literary Club (NLC) that organizes various sorts of cultural events in college where students get exposed to get engaged in various cultural activities of their interest. There are various clubs for students and their social groups as well that are run by students like DCC(Developers and Coders Club), ANIMA, etc.
Hostel Facilities
There are two hostels for boys. RNT for first-year and third-year BTech boys along with all MTech and PG students and Aryabhata for second and fourth-year BTech students. For girls, there is only a single hostel in operation Gargi Hostel. In the girls' hostel, a room comprises two cots and a single shared cupboard for two people, and basic electrical amenities. There are very few double rooms that are comparatively larger in size with two cots and two cupboards for two people. Although the menu of the mess looks quite tempting the meal quality is average only. Sometimes the food is too oily and sometimes it's tasteless. Hostel registration begins with semester registration only on the official page of the college in MIS section and it is around INR 25000 per semester for the fresh registration of the hostel, there is an additional amount of INR 7000 as the hostel initial fee.
