Remarks
The admission process is simple, if I talk about my case it was like I first gave JEE Mains, qualified for it, and then I gave JEE Advanced after qualifying I went through JOSAA counseling having six rounds of college allotment through I got IIT Roorkee in the second round itself and locked my choice there. Finally, all I had to do now was to go to college and submit documents there and live there. Also, here there is a reservation for different categories.
Course Curriculum Overview
The course curriculum is quite good although some of the subjects like communication skills sometimes feel boring. Since my rank was not so good to opt for computer science and I had an interest in programming, I chose this course because chemical engineering is a course that has a very less workload which will allow me to learn to program and probably land a job in the tech sector. Talking about faculty here, professors here are good they will teach you early and also answer your doubts although some professors would just walk into class with their presentation and start reading their slides and when you ask doubts to them they will in return read the slide again.
Internships Opportunities
On-campus internship opportunities at IIT Roorkee are usually provided by the institute's Training and Placement Cell (T&P) to students who are in their final year of study. These internships are typically for 6-8 weeks and are designed to give students practical, hands-on experience in their field of study. Students can apply for these internships through the T&P website or by contacting the T&P cell directly. In addition to on-campus internships, IIT Roorkee also provides off-campus internship opportunities to students through its industry partnerships and collaborations. These internships may be offered by companies and organizations located in various parts of the country and may be paid or unpaid, depending on the agreement between the institute and the company.
Placement Experience
In the academic session of 2021-22, the internship season is going well with top recruiters like Goldman Sachs, JMPC, Sprinkler, HUL, Microsoft, Google, etc. Students are offered roles in multiple profiles like software development, data science, data analytics, finance, product management, supply chain management, etc. Students are hoping that placements season will have even more recruiters, and the average salary package offered will also increase this year in comparison to last year.
Fees and Financial Aid
Since it is a government college, its fee compared to other technical colleges is way less also here if you belong to SC/ST your tuition fee and mess fee will be waived and if you belong to GEN/OBC then you have an option for applying to a tuition fee waiver,i.e., fully waived if your family income is under 1 lakh and 2/3 waived if your family income is between 1-5 lakh.
Campus Life
The campus life at IIT Roorkee is very good. Here, there are many clubs you can take participate in depending upon your interest whether it is related to any sports, dancing, coding, standup, motor racing, etc. The classrooms here are well air-conditioned, and the library is also temperature controlled and usually opens for 15 hours a day and 24 hours during exams. Here all the tech clubs are run by students and also it is the only site where students themself handle the website of the institute.
Hostel Facilities
Initially, when you enter your first year you are allowed Rajendra Bhawan and here only first-year students reside. Rajendra Bhawan is further divided into 4 blocks A B C and D in which D is the best block because it is newly built and also it is the one allowed to me. Here, you get a bed, a ceiling fan, a study table, a chair, and a LAN (for accessing the best internet which is almost 900Mbps). Also, there are two washrooms and water filters at the start and end of the floor. But one con is that other blocks(A B and C ) are built old and are not good.
