IIT Guwahati at a glance

The admission was through IIT JEE Advanced, one of the toughest exams in the world. To apply the candidate needs to have 75% or above in their 10+2 or equivalent degree. Every year one of the 23 IITs takes the responsibility of conducting the exam and you find all the details on their respective college websites.

All the faculty members are PhDs and are really friendly. They are open to hearing all our doubts even the silly ones. But still, sometimes you will find that they are going too fast so you would have to Study by yourself.

Internships are available through many invents. Even first-years get Internships through intern fairs and udgam fest. You get a lot of help and support from seniors in CV building, interviewing skills and a lot more

4rth years take part in placements, you get Internships after your 4rth semester. The placements are good and sorted. The average was around 20lpa but the placement percentage was not so impressive, approx 89%

Fees are almost the same as other IITs. There are many inside and outside scholarships available to us. One such Scholarship is MCM which is merit cum means scholarship. There's a whole department in the admin's block which is dedicated to making all scholarships, inside or outside ones reach students so it's easy to be aware of all such programs.

The social life is great, you get nice people in the first year itself. Almost all seniors are so friendly and always ready to help you and have fun with you. There's a club for almost all activities here and the participation is quite easy too (except for the coding club recruitments). The annual cultural fest Alcheringa is conducted in 1st week of Feb and has a REAL fun vibe, starting from 1 month before the main event!

Hostels are spacious and clean. Most people get twin-sharing hostels with no attached washrooms. There are approx 4 washrooms on a single floor and you get one washing machine in each. Mess food tastes hotel-like for the first month and it starts getting messier and messier with time. In your room, you get a chair table with a drawer, a shelf and a cupboard. One disadvantage is the lack of laundry service in most of the hostels otherwise it's really a 10/10 rating
