Course Curriculum Overview

4

I chose this course (B.A. program) as it gives me an opportunity to study 2 disciplines. For a student hoping to give government exams later, this course is a good option as it covers 2 or 3 of your subjects. But if you want to study a more detailed version, you should opt for an honors course. Teacher: students ratio could be improved a bit. Like any other college of Delhi University, some teachers were outstanding, and some were not so good at teaching even though they all were highly qualified. Exams were held semester-wise. The level of the exam was average. You could pass them with one month of preparation before the exams.

Internships Opportunities

4

Mostly, the internships offered are from new start-ups. Sometimes they are paid but mostly unpaid. But if you're not looking for money but experience, such internships are best for learning a great deal of stuff and developing a good resume for you when you pass out of this college.

Placement Experience

1.5

The placement scenario is not good. And for BA, seriously don't hope for college placement here. Very few decent companies come here for hiring and you'll be very lucky if you get selected. Other than that you'll get many internship opportunities, mostly unpaid. If you're opting for this course, it's best if you're planning to study further or prepare for some exam. As the course is not a tough one, you can study for some other exams along with it. There is not much of an attendance issue here.

Fees and Financial Aid

The fees here is very less. During my time, it was just 10k per year. There were no further costs except the examination fees. The placement scenario is not too good. Mine was during the COVID pandemic, so everything was going on online. Most of the companies which come for the placement are new start ups providing minimum packages or maybe even unpaid training or internship. Some big companies also come for hiring but they rarely select someone. But you get a lot of exposure at Delhi University that you'll have a great skill set to do whatever interests you further.

Campus Life

3

Deshbandhu has a large library with almost every book you'll need for your course available there. The library staff is nice and the process of getting a book issued for you is simple. The college has improved a lot on its infrastructure in recent years. The new Principal has completely changed the previous image of the college being too involved in fights. College Sports clubs and cultural societies are mediocre except for a few which are great like the drama society. The college's annual fest is Sabrang. Although not too famous among the DUites, it's a great one. You'll get to see very famous star performers who will give you the time of your life at the fest. Other than the fest, there are departmental fests and Diwali mela.

Admission

I took admitted there in 2019. There was no entrance exam then but there is now since 2022. The admission process is not too hectic. First, you need to fill out the online admission form for Delhi University and select the colleges to which you're wanting to apply to. After the cut-off lists are announced, you can just print an application for the college you're eligible for and go to that college within 3 days along with your documents and that application form. In the college, you will find many students who will help you out with the further process. Teachers will do your verification if you're eligible for the course. After document submission, you will see a payment option on the site the same day or the next day. Your admission will be confirmed after the payment is done.

Other Applied Colleges

Gargi College | Bachelor of Science [B.Sc] (Life Sciences)

I dropped out of here as I wasn't liking this course. Moreover, the girls there were mean and not at all helpful except a few. One of my zoology professor was callous. She literally once told a student that she doesn't care if she will even commit suicide

Jamia Hamdard University | Bachelor of Science [B.Sc] + Master of Science [M.Sc] (Biotechnology)

This university doesn't provide you with much diversity.

Placement Experience:

Placements are available in college, the drive is quite extensive, everyone is made aware of the choices and options and counselling is present too. It is from the third year, students are eligible to apply for placements. Companies and organisations take part such as Niti ayog, Times, Geostrata, Prajatantra foundation, etc. Those who desire usually work on their CVs, keep on doi internships and then get a placement. The packages are not that impressive to be honest.

The course is really very interesting. It keeps up with our expectations. Involves both practical and theoretical aspects to make sure that we are able to face the real world. Also, with the help of the guidance that we get from teachers we're able to ace both the aspects. The examinations also are based on applications, thus, helping us to enhance ourselves in all possibilities.

I got a seat in Ramjas College. It is a north-campus college. The infrastructure is too good compared to the remaining colleges. The teaching also going well but I faced some language problems. I'm from south India so I don't understand Hindi properly. But here mostly they teach in Hindi only and English is used very rarely.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The course itself is prestigious and is mostly opted for by people who plan either on preparing for the Civil Services or those who want to pursue academia. The course structure is framed in a manner that you don't just simply study history there, but you ingrain a critical viewpoint of a young historian. The faculty of History Hons. has some of the best Professors in the University, although you will in any course at any college find some teachers below your expectations, you don't have to bear them for more than 1 or 2 semesters. Passing the exams is not very difficult, but yes scoring above average is. If you get a GPA ranging from 6 to 7, you've performed fine. Above that is considered a Very good performance in Hons. courses of Social sciences at Delhi University. there are semester exams every 5- 6 months
