Course Curriculum Overview
I was fascinated by History after my 12th because of my subject teacher. So I decided to pursue history for my further studies as well. After my results, I shortlisted some colleges and decided to get admission to Dyal Singh, which I do not regret to be very honest. The faculty of this department in particular is very good, they are intellectual, friendly, and do not demotivate you. Most of them have completed their Ph.D. and the remaining have Master's. Although the ratio between the faculty and students is a little off especially after my batch because, for the first time, 4X of students got themselves admitted to history that's why there are some times when professors find it difficult to manage such a huge class. As far as the teaching methods are concerned, they mostly teach from academic books and through dialogues and debates between them and the students. Exams take place every semester and they are not hard to pass just need some determination and focus one week before the exam.
Internships Opportunities
I am from an arts background on top of pursuing history, so for my course, there are not good opportunities in terms of internships and placements as the majority of the students either choose to prepare for competitive exams or are government employees.
Fees and Financial Aid
Affordability for History Honors and even most of the courses at Delhi University is really good. They are very less compared to any other college or University in Delhi. Even the BPL families can apply for the return of fees. The scholarship is also accessible through exams. But the internships and placements with this course is not great.
Campus Life
The campus life at Dyal Singh is quite happening like any other good college. Other fests and programmes are going on every other day. The annual cultural programme of the history department is Kalakaram in which the department invites various speakers to talk about different topics. There are dance and music involved. And quizzes about history. Classrooms are average and do not have so many facilities. Sports enthusiasts also get to engage themselves through programmes and competitions. There are so many clubs on campus. They are open to every interest. From fashion, environment, women empowerment, and childcare to social services you name it they have it.
Admission
To be honest, the admission process at the University of Delhi is top-notch. You barely have to visit the college premises for admission if you have access to the internet. It provides convenience to those students who do not live in Delhi. I always had a problem with this cut-off thing because so many deserving candidates won't make it to either their favorite college or course but from this year onwards this problem is also resolved as students now have a fair opportunity to prove themselves through CUCET.
