Course Curriculum Overview

3.5

I want to sit for the civil services exam and I found both Political Science and the North Campus culture helpful for that. Usually, the classes are divided into sections, and the student: teacher ratio is around 40:1, but there has never been an instance other than tests where you can find 100% attendance. DU professors are pretty well qualified and experienced as getting that job itself is a very rigorous process. The teaching process is usually in a lecture format where the teachers deliver a lecture, we can take short notes and then they recommend some book or article to study the topic extensively. The study approach is very independent and no spoon-feeding happens. The academic calendar is published before the beginning of the semester and it contains all major exam details. As for passing, the questions are usually for 18 marks in my course, so you need loads of information cramming, however, the questions are pretty broad and straight - forward.

Fees and Financial Aid

Because Delhi University is a Government institution, the fees are very affordable, compared to any other private institution. My total fee for the entire 3-year course is around 35,000 when I do not enjoy any concessions. People belonging to SC, ST, and PWD categories do get waivers. As for scholarships, they are available but most of the eligibility criteria are framed for helping economically weaker sections. Also if you get the hostel facility, the fees are very less. Not to forget the canteens, the food is decent and the prices are very affordable, you can even get a good meal for Rs.50.

Campus Life

4

There are plenty of college societies you can become part of, not to forget, you can even start one - I did start a public policy-based society in my college. Various societies keep conducting speaker sessions, fests, and different activities and you get to know about all that through different social media handles. The building and infrastructure are exactly what you can expect out of a government body, with tall ceilings with no paint and old benches, very few projector classes, and no ACs. As for sport, KMC does have its gym which is free for students and can be used. The ground is also there and you can play sports, but voluntarily as most of the tournaments are reserved for the students from the sports quota. Some societies you can search for - are YLPDF and Avenues.

Admission

The admission process in 2020 was based on the 12th board marks. The application was available on the DU website which was the one-application for all courses and colleges under Delhi University after registering on that portal. Later, when the results were announced, shortly after, DU announced its cut-off for different courses and colleges. Even then, you log in to your portal and can apply to the course and college based on your marks reaching the cut-off. That is it, you wait for the application screening and you can check its status on the portal itself. Once you are verified, you are supposed to pay the fees for the 1st year and only after you pay the fees, you can confirm your seat. nevertheless, if you want to change your college or course in the later cut-offs, you can very well do that from the portal and you will get a 100% refund.

The course curriculum is a bit too theoretical and less practical. The exams in the college takes places every month which are seasonals and are for internal marking and then we have semester exams in every 6 months which accounts for the external marking.

Placement Experience:

Placements are available in college, the drive is quite extensive, everyone is made aware of the choices and options and counselling is present too. It is from the third year, students are eligible to apply for placements. Companies and organisations take part such as Niti ayog, Times, Geostrata, Prajatantra foundation, etc. Those who desire usually work on their CVs, keep on doi internships and then get a placement. The packages are not that impressive to be honest.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The course is really very interesting. It keeps up with our expectations. Involves both practical and theoretical aspects to make sure that we are able to face the real world. Also, with the help of the guidance that we get from teachers we're able to ace both the aspects. The examinations also are based on applications, thus, helping us to enhance ourselves in all possibilities.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The course itself is prestigious and is mostly opted for by people who plan either on preparing for the Civil Services or those who want to pursue academia. The course structure is framed in a manner that you don't just simply study history there, but you ingrain a critical viewpoint of a young historian. The faculty of History Hons. has some of the best Professors in the University, although you will in any course at any college find some teachers below your expectations, you don't have to bear them for more than 1 or 2 semesters. Passing the exams is not very difficult, but yes scoring above average is. If you get a GPA ranging from 6 to 7, you've performed fine. Above that is considered a Very good performance in Hons. courses of Social sciences at Delhi University. there are semester exams every 5- 6 months
