Extraordinary, a dream come true

IIT Roorkee is probably the best i could get. IITs being the best colleges of India provide a very interactive, friendly, and free environment which not only produces the best engineers of India but also well-mannered, well-educated, professional engineers with highly developed personality owing to the facilities provided here.

I entered this college by qualifying for the IIT-Joint Entrance Examination(IIT-JEE) which was conducted by IIT Guwahati in the year 2016. The entrance was solely through the All India Rank which was based on a written examination of JEE. My interest in biotechnology and the opportunities it has made me choose this course. There are various mysteries still present in the biological world, many stones still left unturned and many unexplored areas that majorly interested me and made me excited and willing to join this course.

The subjects being taught here are extremely good, clarifying all the concepts in depth complemented with practical knowledge and giving us a good laboratory experience. There are many research initiatives taken up by the institute. Some of them are "Biofortification of wheat for micronutrients through conventional and molecular breeding approaches", "Bioremediation", and so on. The electives offered by the department of biotechnology, IIT Roorkee are "Separation techniques", "Macromolecular Crystallography" and "NMR Spectroscopy" with various electives of other departments as well.

The placement is good here being around 82% which makes IIT Roorkee the 6th best college in India. The major companies that visited our campus this year were Schlumberger, ONGC, Goldmann Sachs, Samsung American Express, Google, Oracle, etc. The average package would have been around 12lpa.

My family income being less than 5lpa, i was given 66% fee-back by the Government of India due to which the total fee i pay per semester is roughly 58,000 INR (46,000 INR institute fees and 12,000 INR mess fee).

Yes, the college provides scholarships. MCM (Merit-cum means scholarship). 66% fees-back to students having family income less than 5lpa INR (I avail this one)100% fees-back to students having family income less than 1lpa INR. The college also helps in getting loans with certain attachments from SBI and PNB.

There are all kinds of groups at IIT Roorkee ranging from cultural to technical groups and ample sports facilities that allow one to fully explore his/her area of interest.

I stay in the Girls' hostel here where 2 girls share the same room till their 2nd year of study after which they get single rooms. The 58,000 INR which i pay per semester includes everything(tuition fees, accommodation, mess fee etc.). The quality of mess food is very good here although as a personal opinion, the taste can be improved.

There is a group in the campus IARC(Institute Alumni Relations Cell) which is particularly dedicated to this interaction. The group keeps organizing meetings and lectures and accomplishes its task.

The exams and labs are just perfect in terms of time. Neither too early, nor too late.

The faculty at IIT is extremely qualified and has high knowledge which takes regular classes and converts the so-called "creamy layer of India(IITians)" into the world's best engineers. The professors are highly interactive which makes every possible effort to clarify the concepts giving an ample amount of time to all the topics. They also motivate us to look for solutions and emphasize practical learning as well.
