IIT PATNA review (1st year)

I chose mechanical engineering because I was interested in motorsports, cars, and coming to the faculty-student ratio our lecture hall has nearly 300 students in the hall i.e. 10 groups of students sitting together of BTech and dual degrees. Our faculty members are highly qualified with everybody having subject excellence and Ph.D. degrees from top colleges and some of them even have experience of teaching in foreign as well. Our mid-sem exams started within a month or so after joining the college and now too after a break of another month we have end-sem, however, the paper was not very difficult to pass, we can score decent marks by studying for 3-4 days prior to the exam, only maths exam I can say requires practice as switching from objective to subjective may be challenging for some.

As a fresher, I have only heard about some 2nd year or third-year students getting internships with skills such as coding, web development, etc. The college supports this behavior with student clubs like NJACK here to make sure students study market-relevant courses in coding, web development, AI, ML, data science, etc.

As a fresher here studying for only 2-3 months, I don't really know about the placements but have heard that our college being a tier 2 IIT college has good placements for students with decent packages of six-digit lpa figures no less than any top iits however only top branches are preferred for placements making it difficult for students of mechanical or below to get placement job without a higher cgpa in college. My plan after completing the degree is to get a high-paying job in the CS/IT field whether or not on campus or off-campus as the IIT tag will surely help give me an edge in any placement off campus.

As a fresher, my college fee structure is near as same as other IIT colleges at around Rs. 5-8 lakh for 4-year BTech program academic fees the college does provide a huge number of financial assistance as they have a tie-up with various known banks which provided loans to students on the admission day itself along with scholarships on merit, sports and government officials.

My experience at campus has been good so far so good I got the exposure I needed to turn myself from an introvert to an extrovert, discovering new fields, I am good at meeting people from all over the country. The best thing about the college is that seniors have a healthy relationship with freshers which makes our college one of the few coming in ragging-free campuses. Recently I have joined many clubs and fests that our college conducts regularly here starting from sports fets to technical fests and cultural fests. Our college stands toe to toe with any other IIT colleges when it comes to sports or academics with supporting examples such as organizing sports events and fests regularly with dedicated members getting selected by rigorous practice and nice and competitive support in technical areas such as coding and learning new things of future potential. Naming a few clubs such as RnA robotics club, motorsports club, Infinito, Anwesha, Celesta, etc.

Hostel allocation was done easily but time-consuming by just simply showing the proof of payment through josaa and verified documents. The quality of food at our campus is decent for a hosteller, a person who has lived in a hostel before in a place like Kota or so will surely like the food here however a person with high standards (homemade food) might face some trouble adjusting here. A nice thing I found here is that the mess shares a separate corner for non-veg students and also unlikely hostels for pre-engineering students that too 4 times a week, the overall quality is nice however we have cons as well such as veg quality is severely below the quality of food you eat at home which is not the case with non-veg, only a specified amount of meal is served such as 80g(2 pcs) non-veg or 120g paneer which could be less for satisfying your hunger sometimes and comparing to other IIT colleges you might end up disappointed with paying more mess fees but getting comparatively less quality.

I got admission on the qualifying JEE Advanced 2023 exam, everything from the application form to fee structure and other important details was always available on the josaa site and the IIT Patna site itself. I secured a rank of 2317 in the SC category which got me into a mechanical branch of my college and the only suggestion for improvement during the admission process is that the mode of transport from the main city to the college could be done better and the checking of documents could be done better with more number of people doing the authentication.
