Course Curriculum Overview
As I was from PCM, maths was one of my favourite subject and I wanted to do research in mathematics, so I opted for Bsc Maths (hons) .Our class has 52 students which is a quite good number for a teacher to teach as it gets interactive and interesting when we have students with common interest. Professors usually teach from their notes and through slides and students too are asked to present their PPTs infront of the class , which helps to improve their communication skill and knowledge. The professors in my are college are mostly graduated from DU and IITS and have done bachelor, master and PhD in their respective subject. They are the best professors which you can get for studying your respective course. Semester exams usually occur in 6 months but internal exams usually go on for whole semester which make your CGPA for finals. A negative aspect of all these things is that you get a lot of assignments, tasks , tests , etc which are exhausting.
Internships Opportunities
I do not have any prior knowledge about internships as it is my 1st Year but if you need to get placements you kust join intership cell which guides you through your way . You can apply for internship from your own into many companies.
Placement Experience
The placements are comparatively less as many students go to research after their bachelors and many into government jobs especially UPSC , if you meet 100 people in DU in one day then almost 80 of them wants to do UPSC . But for the ones who wish to get placements, you have to struggle and make efforts from your side , the average package which one student gets in Maths hons is like 10-12 lpa but the package increases in Statistics hons . If you need a really good package, you need to improve your skills and try out yourself to get the placements. Only relying on the college will not help you out to get placements. Students usually go for masters in IIT through IIT JAM as I have seen many of my seniors are also preparing for it and many have gone to IITs for masters. I am also planning to get some placements or otherwise Masters from IIT.
Fees and Financial Aid
The fee price hike is real in Hindu College , it was increased upto 30% last year which is not expected as DU is famous for its less fees but we had to pay 26000 for whole year which was 16-17k in recent years. Although it is acceptable but the price of living in Delhi is too high if you are living in PG/flats . I would say one thing that studying in DU is cheap but living in Delhi is not. I have applied for INSPIRE scholarship which gives you 60k per year if (i) you have applied for any Bsc course anywhere (DU as well as any other University in India) (ii) you are in the top 1% students in your respective board. There are many other scholarships which Hindu College gives , like if you top your respective course , you can get upto 12k in Maths hons ; there are many other scholarships for economically weaker students which you can get to know on the website of Hindu College, ,i.e., hinducollege.ac.in
Campus Life
The annual fest of Hindu College is 'MECCA' , a 3 day fest , which is the biggest fest of DU . It is usually conducted in March/April . As it is my 1st year and I have not attended it , I am not capable enough to review it properly but as far as I know , last year the main event was of Singer Sunidhi Chauhan and almost 20k students attended it. There is a huge 3 floor library in Hindu College having a vast range of books of your respective course and general knowledge and other. It also have reading space in which almost 100-150 students can sit at a time . The classrooms in Hindu College are having blackboard and projector and white screen too. The labs are modern having all the new equipments and lastly whole college have wifi access and you can get their password from your seniors. There are many sports like Cricket, football, Basketball and too many societies for extra curricular activities, we have dance , music , painting, debating and many more societies which students can join.
Admission
Admission into Delhi University was through an entrance exam called 'CUET' , for which we can appear after giving 12th class boards exam and there is no minimum criteria of 12th class percentage for appearing in CUET . Then , through cut offs we are alloted a college and course which was according to our preference list , (we need to fill a preference list in which we arrange the college+course combination in which we want to take admission) . The application forms for CUET are usually out in January/February on cuet.samarth.ac in which last for like 1 month to fill . Then , in the month of May these exams start , for which first the city is allocated and then admit cards are out before 3-4 days of examination. CUET is computer based MCQ exam in which every exam has a time duration of 45 mins (except for some , like maths , physics, chemistry, etc , which have calculation in it ) . Finally the admission is given through merit. I scored 705/800 for bsc maths hons.
Other Applied Colleges
Banaras Hindu University - [BHU] | Bachelor of Science [B.Sc] {Hons.} (Mathematics)
It was comparatively far away from my home and also my second preference after Delhi University.
