What Students Say
Likes
- I like the facilities in our campus. There is pretty much every thing you can think of.
- The big green campus which is so fun to explore.
- Hostel life ... These are the best days I hope everyone experience atleast once in their life.
Dislikes
- Over competitive environment among the students.
- Distance from the town. The campus is located far away from silchar town. I would have been great if the NIT was located in areas like Nagaon or Tezpur.
- Over priced shops. Every shop in the campus sells things at higher prices.
Course Curriculum Overview
Basically, I really am a fan of classical physics, which led me to choose a core branch like civil. Also, I am expecting a growth in the no. of constructions in India in the upcoming years. Faculty: student ratio is fine because we are taught by professors as well as PHD students. So it makes up . We get 3-4 teachers per subject All the professors are highly qualified and all of them are having PHD degree from premium institutes from around the world. There was not enough time between exams. It's easy to pass but tough to score good marks and a decent cgpa.
Internships Opportunities
There are plenty opportunities, we need to grab it ourselves. Honestly, as a fresher I still need to know More about how the interships work but till now what I have seen is that there are many companies willing to offer internships to the students, the only thing is we grab the opportunities or not.
Placement Experience
Students become eligible from 6th sem itself. Many companies like tcs, google, cognizant, L&T etc. Last year the highest package offered was 80LPA . And average package is 8-9LPA Almost 80-90% of the students get placed. I am planning to prepare for govt. Jobs in the future
Fees and Financial Aid
I feel , for general students the fees is a bit on the higher side of around 1 lakh/ semester. I really hope the fees becomes lower in the upcoming years for general students. Talking about scholarships, there are very less scholarships for a general student with more than 5lakhs of family income.
Campus Life
The annual fest named "incandescence" is held in the month of February. Wherease the tech fest named "technoesis" is generally held in the month of October however it can change from year to year . There are enough number of books and journal in the library, which is also the largest digital library in whole asia. Classrooms are pretty basic, wooden table chair, blackboard and chalks. Nothing highclass. We can play whatever we want there are place for almost every sport. There numbers of clubs in the campus that is run by students. I can name some :- Finance club, symphonits(music club), astra club(astronomy), obettievo (photography) and many more..
Hostel Facilities
Hostels are pretty average don't expect much as it is a government college afterall. We get a bed ,a desk, two cupboards and a shared balcony . Meal quality and menu is ofcourse diverse and food is above average I would say . Though on weekends it's really good. Registration process for hostel is done along with the admission process. Then we go to the hostel to see our alloted room .
Admission
I prepared for JEE mains to get into NIT Silchar. The eligibility criteria is that we should get above 75% overall in class 12th boards( for general/OBC students) and 60%(for SC/ST). We can register for the examination in the link :- jeemain.nta.nic.in . I hope that the process becomes more simple and hassle-free. Also I feel there is a need of improvement of the website we register ourselves in.
Other Applied Colleges
Tezpur University, School of Engineering Tezpur | Bachelor of Technology [B.Tech] (Computer Science and Engineering)
Because it had lack of placement and I also wanted the NIT tag. But, more importantly I genuinely have interest in studying core subjects, I don't like coding.
