Course Curriculum Overview

4

I got know about Economics (hons) when I was in Class X. It was my sister who told me about the course, who was already in Delhi University. I got really interested in Economics at that time and chose Commerce in Class XI. I also got know that not only this is one the hardest courses in Delhi University, but also one of the most rewarding courses, providing very high placements. The faculty:student ratio of Shri Ram College of Commerce is around 1:50. All the faculty of Shri Ram College of Commerce is highly qualified with many teachers having more than 30 years of experience in teaching. Although, our session started really late, the term exams were pretty much on time.

Placement Experience

3.5

The placements of Shri Ram College of Commerce are one the highest in Delhi Univerisity. For the session 2023-23, the highest package was 35 lpa, average package was 10.15 lpa, median package was 8 lpa and the gross placement value was 51.6 crore. There were more than 100 recruiters from more than 15 sectors, including McKinsey & Co., BCG, Bain & Co., Kearny, Accenture, Delloite, JP Morgan & Co., etc. with more than 500 offers. The Placement Cell also launched an initiative of assissting people with special abilities to secure placements and interships. As of now, I have not settled to what I am going to do after graduation.

Fees and Financial Aid

The fees of any course is really low in Delhi Univeristy, with Fees of BA (hons) Economics ranging from 5k to 35k per year. What is costly is the expenditure on accomodation. Living in Delhi around North Campus can be really expensive with a double sharing PG costing between 1.5 lacs to 2.5 lacs depnding on various factors like location, facilities, etc. I did not apply for any scholoarships however two of my friends got scholarships worth 12k and 25k from the College itself. Also, two my seniors got an intership of worth 2.5 lacs by Hindustan Unilever Limited.

Campus Life

4.5

SRCC conducts one of the largest annual fests of the Delhi Univeristy, called "Crossroads". It is held for 4 days with new celebrities and singers coming each day. It also conducts the Asia's largest unergraduate management fest, called "Business Conclave". It is held for 3 days with people coming from various fields. As SRCC offers 2 courses in Undergraduation, most of the books in library are related to them only, ie, Economics and Commerce related subjects like Finance, etc. However, there is still a big pool of books for every for every reader. Every classroom in SRCC is centrally airconditioned and has a smartboard. The Sports Complex of SRCC is the largest compared to any college in DU. It has a seating capacity of 1200 with changing rooms, sauna baths, gyms, rehabilitation center, etc. for players. One can play many sports like badminton, basketball, football, baseball. etc. SRCC is also very famous for its student-run societies, like Dramatics Society, Economics Society, etc.

Hostel Facilities

4

I live in the hostel of SRCC which is on campus only. Most of the rooms are double sharing with some rooms being triple sharing and even single as well. In boys hostel, one gets a study table, side table, mirror and a shared almirah. There is proper ventilation with a window however there is no airconditioning or cooller provided by the college. The hostel application form is provided on the Announcements tab on the SRCC website itself. It is quite a tedious process to register for the hostel as they require many things. Hostel is alloted on the basis of your marks. Hostel is very affordable compared to a PG or flat outside college. It takes less than 5 minutes to reach the classroom from hostel. The menu of the mess keeps on changing every few weeks and and quality of the food is actually pretty good compared to the image people have for hostel mess food.

Admission

Currently, I am pursuing BA (hons) Economics from Shri Ram College of Commerce, Delhi University. For one to pursue this course, they must have either Mathematics or Applied Mathematics in their Class 12, as well as one of their Domain Subjects in CUET. One has give CUET (Common University Entrance Test) to get admitted into any of the Central Universities, like Delhi University. Unlike the procedure followed earlier of releasing the cutoff, DU has followed a new procedure of CSAS (Common Seat Allocation System) for allocating seats to the applicants. Under this system, the cutoff is not released, rather, one has to make a preference list of their courses and colleges and a combination is allocated according to their marks. I got admitted in DU through Scheduled Caste Reservation. The CUET exam can be made better by making it a more streamlined process and conducting exams in the given schedule only. Clearer communication from UGC as well as NTA will also be helpful.

Placements are available in college, the drive is quite extensive, everyone is made aware of the choices and options and counselling is present too. It is from the third year, students are eligible to apply for placements. Companies and organisations take part such as Niti ayog, Times, Geostrata, Prajatantra foundation, etc. Those who desire usually work on their CVs, keep on doi internships and then get a placement. The packages are not that impressive to be honest.

The course is really very interesting. It keeps up with our expectations. Involves both practical and theoretical aspects to make sure that we are able to face the real world. Also, with the help of the guidance that we get from teachers we're able to ace both the aspects. The examinations also are based on applications, thus, helping us to enhance ourselves in all possibilities.

I got a seat in Ramjas College. It is a north-campus college. The infrastructure is too good compared to the remaining colleges. The teaching also going well but I faced some language problems. I'm from south India so I don't understand Hindi properly. But here mostly they teach in Hindi only and English is used very rarely.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The course itself is prestigious and is mostly opted for by people who plan either on preparing for the Civil Services or those who want to pursue academia. The course structure is framed in a manner that you don't just simply study history there, but you ingrain a critical viewpoint of a young historian. The faculty of History Hons. has some of the best Professors in the University, although you will in any course at any college find some teachers below your expectations, you don't have to bear them for more than 1 or 2 semesters. Passing the exams is not very difficult, but yes scoring above average is. If you get a GPA ranging from 6 to 7, you've performed fine. Above that is considered a Very good performance in Hons. courses of Social sciences at Delhi University. there are semester exams every 5- 6 months
