
Remarks
The infrastructure of the college is very good with largest library in Asia recently being completed in collaboration with University of Illinois. The college life here is extremely enjoyable and is a great learning experience. The natural beauty of campus is mesmerizing with lakes and greenery and beautiful sunset and beautiful weather.
Entrance Preview
Like all the other NITs in the country, admission to NIT Silchar is also through JEE Mains with no interview or any other process. As i was interested in b.tech and got the required rank to get admission in this institute i chose the institute
Course Curriculum Overview
I chose electrical engineering which is well structured and covers all major topics from electrical as well as electronic field. Every semester has provision of at least two compulsory lab and some even have three. There is lot of research going under highly qualified faculty of the institute. There is provision of elective subjects in the last year of study and a compulsory project to be completed in final year
Internships Opportunities
The tnp cell of the college provides summer internship for 1-2 month duration. Mostly the internship are in PSUs and some companies like tata. Stipend internship are given only to cse students. But you can apply yourself for internships with stipend
Placement Experience
Placement scenario is decent, with almost more than 90% of the students participating in the placement process getting job. It is specifically good for CSE students who landed multiple jobs with good packages. Major recruiters being - goldman sachs, medlife, Microsoft, musigma, delloite, john deere, maruti suzuki, tata motors , abb, lnt and various PSUs.
College Events
There are many activities and events that happens throughout the college life. In fact NIT Silchar may be one of the most active campus in terms of activities. Major technical fest being technologist which lasts three days and major cultural fest being incandescence which lasts for 4 days. Also there is very active mun and e- cell society, and the college has a start-up center for entire north east. All the major clubs are very active, conducting various events throughout the year.
Fee Structure And Facilities
academic fee is 42k and other fee including mess and hostel fee is 15k per semester. there is extra 20k admission fee for the first time out of which 10k is refundable.
Fees and Financial Aid
Yes the college provides scholarship for economically challenged students or students belonging to sc/st category. Also the state bank inside the campus provides easy interest free loan to a lot of students every year.
Campus Life
As mentioned before the college has a great environment of extracurricular activities with various clubs like dramatics, photography,quiz,adventure,sports,music, dance, literary etc conducting various events throughout the year. Apart from it students get chance to participate in various other national or international events organised by various institutes or organizations.
Hostel Facilities
Almost all the students live in hostel. Hostel conditions are good, with single , double as well as some triple rooms. There is no provision of PGs. Food quality is good if you are non-vegetarian but not so for vegetarians.
Alumni/Alumna
The college has started building its alumni network in recent time and since then its been growing. The college has many alumni working at highest level in various organizations. There is anual alumni meet which gives students chance to interact with the alumni. The network is in expansion phase and thus there hasn't yet been major contribution by the alumni, but it has been started.
Exam Structure
There is two major exams in a semester. One is mid-sem carrying 30 marks and one end- sem carrying 50 marks. Rest 20 marks are internal out of which 10 is given on a class test and rest 10 on assignment/ attendance. Exam pressure is really not a lot.
Faculty
Most of the faculties are well qualified professors with lot of experience and research under there belt. Some of them are very interactive but some not so. The teaching is good but you have to rely on yourself more to score good grade.
