Dislikes
- The fees is a bit surplus for the middle classed but the placement is good.
- There's 75% attendance policy which a lot of students are not very fond of.
- The reservation system makes almost half the seats to occupied for home state students.
Course Curriculum Overview
I chose this course as I've always had an interest in computers and coding and this course met all those conditions. The faculty student ratio is around 1:500 and in the classroom it's around 1:200. Most of faculty members are PHD holders from even IITs and the most of assistant professors have a master's degree and some are PHD students. The exams happen 2 times per semester, mid sem exams and end sem exams , the exams are relatively easier than the 12th board and JEE exams.
Internships Opportunities
DE Shaw , Microsoft and Google are major companies that offer internships varying from 25k/month to even 1.5 lakhs. I don't know any much details about internships yet as I'm in 2nd sem only so haven't got any offers yet.
Placement Experience
From the 5th-6th semester the students are eligible for placements, Google, Amazon ,Meta, DE Shaw are some of the major companies visiting the campus, the highes package offered was 56lpa in 2022 and average for BE CoE branch was around 16-18 lpa, more than 90% of students are placed. My plans are to get placed in a decent company.
Fees and Financial Aid
The fees is on par with other private institutions but imo Thapar is the best private engineering college except BITS so the fee is reasonable, a bunch of scholarships are provided both on the basis of merit and merit cum needs which cover from 25% of tution fee to 100% of tuition fee depending on your merit and need, the city is relatively cheaper than my home town and cost of living is manageable. I have got any stipend or job yet as I'm in 2nd sem only.
Campus Life
There are several annual and tech fests such as Thapar Food Festival which is a cultural fest and occurs in October usually and SATURNALIA Thapar's best techno-cultural fest that happens in November. The Library in Thapar is one of the best libraries you can find in India and have been considered one of the best infrastructures in the WORLD too, almost every book you can think of is available in the Nava Nalanda Central library. The classrooms have 2 white boards,2 projectors and are well furnished and clean and ventillated. Sports and extracurricular activities keep happening almost every week and there's a sports fest too named URJA that takes place in February over 3 days. A lot of societies and clubs are there such as literary society, coding society, mudra(dance society) and many more.
Admission
Eligibility is 60% in PCM not sure tho ,for the Bachelor of Engineering in Computer Engineering course.I gave the JEE mains exam, both the JEE mains score and 12th score are considered for selection process and seperate cutoffs released for both. The application form can be filled at admissions thapar.edu and the cutoff for my branch was 97 for JEE mains and 94.6 for 12th PCM.
