Course Curriculum Overview
The curriculum was very core-oriented and well-designed, and all the semesters had the same difficulty level, I knew that this was something that I wanted to learn so I chose this. The curriculum has things like Auto CAD and STAAD pro software which are used in the real world so it prepares us well. Some improvements I can suggest are being more practical and including Industrial Site visits in the curriculum. There is a mid-semester examination and then an end-semester examination every 6 months, The difficulty level is moderate.
Internships Opportunities
The college provides good internship opportunities such as Microsoft and Amazon and some others which provide stipends up to 75000 per month and then they give PPO, You can also do a research internship at any other IIT or NIT.
Placement Experience
The placement of NIT Hamirpur is pretty good. For the computer science department, it is pretty easy to get placed due to the opportunities provided. Students become eligible for campus placements in the 7th semester. Companies like Samsung, Dell, and Tredence visit the campus and make offers from 8 to 16 lakhs, some students even bag Amazon and Microsoft for SDE. Around 70% of students get placed others go for higher studies. I will also go for higher studies.
Fees and Financial Aid
The fee structure for general students is quite hectic, but those having income less than 5 lakh or belonging to the SC/ST community have to pay less tuition fees. The hostel fee is the same for everyone. The complete cost of my education would be around 8.5 lakh while someone having a family income less than 1 lakh has to pay around 3.5 lakh. The campus provides summer internships in various companies with an average stipend of 15000 per month.
Campus Life
One thing about NIT Hamirpur that stands out is its campus life, which is great, every student is involved in either technical or cultural clubs, Hill'ffair the annual cultural fest of NIT Hamirpur is held in November, and NIMBUS the annual technical fest of college held in April. The library is great, the facilities in the classrooms are also great with a projector and ACs, The sports section of NIT Hamirpur is also really good in terms of good indoor stadiums and outdoor playgrounds.
Hostel Facilities
The Hostel facilities, in my opinion, are not up to mark, the single rooms in the 4th year are good but the four lets in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd year are not good. The food quality is also average, in small hostels the food is great but in big hostels, it is not good, there is also a water issue. The registration process for hostel is done along the admission.
Admission
The admission process for NIT Hamirpur is just like all the other NITs in our country, I had to give JEE Mains after passing class 12th and the application form was released by NTA in December and the exam took place in February, the application fee was 1200 Rs. During my time the exam happened 4 times in a year, now it happens two times. The difficulty level was from moderate to hard. The cut-off for my course in this college for outside state students was 40000 rank in Mains. The areas where NTA and JoSAA can improve are giving more transparency and correct answers on a timely basis.
