Course Curriculum Overview

3.5

I checked the previous cutoffs and of all the options I had, this is the best opportunity that I have. Many things other than academics like region, transportation facilities played a role in choosing the institute. I was interested to take a course in ECE or EE as I was not that interested in choosing cse at a lower grade IIT than ece or ee at a second grade iit. Ece being a course that requires greater understanding of topics and a greater level of dedication to pursue has its own challenges. As a student, everyone of us face difficulties at labs with the equipment being unsuitable to perform. We usually have a mid semester and end semester exams in one semester. Mid semester usually occurs after 1.5 months and end semester will be conducted at the end of 4th month of a semester. A semester will be of 4 months. Course structure has to be reviewed again and adjusted according to the current requirements. Few useful courses aren't there.

Internships Opportunities

2.5

This year we had oracle, Nvidia, DE Shaw, media.net, Accenture, Tata steel, Siemens, Volga infosys, paypal, datoms and few. Stipend offered for oracle and Nvidia was around 1l and for Tata steel it is around 30k. Media.net also offers around 1l. Datoms offered a role of full stack developer and Volga infosys offered various roles like hr intern, digital marketing intern.

Placement Experience

3.5

Students will be eligible for placements after entering into their 7th semester. Companies like Accenture, zomato, mathworks, media.net, BPCL, HPCL, Tata capital, publicis sapient, brane, Tata steel, MAQ software, dolat capital, JLR, tiger analytics, EXL and more visited the campus. More than 50 percent of the students are placed in the December. Usually from ece there will be a percentage of 90-100 students getting placed but there is a drop this time. Zomato offered a CTC of around 52lpa and Accenture of around 42lpa. The median is around 20lpa. As of now I'm planning to go for a post graduation in ece.

Fees and Financial Aid

Me being from a general category, my fee for a semester will be around 1.5l including hostel and mess fee. Tuition fee hasn't been increased since I joined and the mess fee is increasing every year by an amount of 1-2k per semester. Hostel fee is of around 8.5k now which will be included in the tuition fee. Tuition fee is around 1.35l for one semester and 1.3l for another. For the students who are financially weak, they do offer fee remission when ews certificate is produced. Fee remission around 1l is given in every semester at almost end of the semester .For students of sc or st category, their tuition fee will be of 35k. Hostel fee and mess fee remains the same for everyone. Due to recession and other things, the intake is currently not that high. For those who work as a teaching assistant around 18k will be given every month.

Campus Life

3.5

The annual fests we have in IIT Bhubaneswar are wissenaire, alma Fiesta, esummit and ashvamedha. Ashvamedha is an annual sports fest and takes place in October. Wissenaire is an annual techno management fest here in bhubaneswar and it is the largest of such kind in the eastern India. Usually it happens around January but this year we are having it in the second week of March. Students from different institutes come to visit. Alma Fiesta is a cultural fest and this too happens in the January usually. This will also be a 3 day fest. Esummit is an entrepreneurial fest and usually occurs in the November. we can borrow them from library for around 3 months. As of now we have 3 lecture halls that has group discussion rooms, seminar rooms and are inter connected. Inter IIT happens in december in all the sports, socio cultural and technology categories. We have societies like dgroovers, clix, auroh, fourth wall, cinewave neuromancers, nakshatra, web and design, souls for solace, FEBS.

Hostel Facilities

4

Single rooms are provided for every student. Most of the btech students stay here in the campus in hostels. We do have a study chair, a table, a cupboard and a single bed in every room. We do have a dedicated balcony for our room. Lan and wifi are provided to the rooms. There will be a common room, pantry room and a washing machine for every floor. There are 2 hostels for girls, 3 for boys and 1 for married scholars. Hostel registration process is direct and done during semester registration itself. For the facilities provided, hostel is much affordable. However meal quality is a bit poor at times. As of now it costs around 135rs for meals for a day. The price is ok but the quality isn't. It just depends on times and on the caterer. Sometimes food quality is pretty good. Btech students do stay here in the hostels. For phd or any other course students they may stay here in jatni for flexible transportation.

Admission

My jee advanced rank is around 7k. I was offered with this admission in first round of counseling under General category. Our jee was during covid and they conducted jee mains 4 times in 2021. I scored around 99 percentile in mains and my rank was around 10k. So I preferred to apply for BITS where I scored around 320 in their entrance exam. I had the chances of getting an admission in both at Iit and bits. The admission process at BITS was at a slower rate and I secured an IIT admission in that gap. Josaa counseling happens very faster. Our counseling took place in September 2021. Paper was a bit tougher and hence it is just after the covid the cutoffs went low. Bitsat entrance exam is much easy but there a number of questions to solve in that interval whereas in jee advanced the number of questions are considerably low but are difficult to solve and time taking. My admission process was much smoother and didn't require any document verification offline as that was covid time

Other Applied Colleges

I would rate the placements at my college as 3 out of 5. Students usually become eligible for campus placements from the sixth or seventh semester, and a few well-known companies do visit the campus every year. The placement cell helps with basic training like resume building and interviews, and many students, especially from IT branches, manage to secure jobs. At the same time, the average salary packages are not very high and top roles are limited, so a lot of students also focus on skill development, off-campus opportunities or higher studies after completing their degree

Students are eligible for placement from their 3rd year onwards. It has been only 2-3 months but I have seen several companies arriving at the college, prominent ones being Flipkar,Deloitte, Xerox, TCS, Wipro, Infosys, Microsoft, Dell and several others including startups. There is no accurate data on how many offers have been made this year, but there are rumours that more than 95% of the eligible students have got placements. After getting a degree my plans are if I dont land into a satisfying job then I will start my preparation of the military or start a new business.
