Likes
- The overall facilities like hostel accommodation (we never experienced water shortage or power cuts).
- The faculties are well updated and supportive. We have a good library.
- The group which we have, friends who always makes our life easier.
Dislikes
- The summer weather is the one thing which everyone hates.
- We are allowed to use bicycles considering the safety and security of students. Although it's necessary, i hate it because its difficult to go to classes which is 2km away
- The criteria of 75 percent attendance. This is the bitter truth that almost everyone hate this. But nobody can do anything right!
Course Curriculum Overview
We still follow basic curriculum which is very necessary for understanding the things. As it is an autonomous institute, flexibility is there in the course structure and professor's are very much updated. They teach the important topics and may skip the content which is not necessary. This is a good practice as compared to some colleges which goes on with the 90's syllabus, haha...
Placement Experience
Almost all the students are getting placed. The maximum placement happens in Software, IT companies. Students from branches like Mechanical, Civil also opt for non-core (this is the trend) as there is high chance of getting placed. (things can change). The average package is around 12.2 lpa in 2023. For computer science, the avg package is 24 lpa. Some students go for higher education like MTech or Phd. Very few will do startups.
Fees and Financial Aid
Scholarships are available for reservation students. They have to pay 33 percent of the semester fee. If your annual income is more than 5 lakh, there is no option for any financial assistance and you have to pay semester fee which is 1 lakh. As per my knowledge, most of scholarships has a condition that the annual income is less than 2 lakh and some says 5 lakh. Anyway, you have to pay more for quality products. This is the case we see in every field.
Campus Life
The academic part completely depends upon how you manage time properly. There is a lot of facilities for the same (Library, wifi, etc). We have different societies for various co-curricular activities as per your skill. We have Technical, Cult, Entrepreneurship fest which is completely managed by student gymkhana. There is complete facility for almost all sports. Moreover campus life depends on what kind of person you are. Everything won't be satisfying for everybody. The food, weather, culture, social mingling are some of the things which you have to adjust with. Rest comes as the way it want to be.
Hostel Facilities
Hostel fee including mess comes around 20000 per semester. Every students have to stay in institute hostels. Hostels are well maintained. IIT Bhubaneswar provides a room for an individual. The room has a table, chair, bed and a wardrobe. While living in a hostel, you definitely have to adjust with the mess. We cannot satisfy everyone who comes from different states and cultures. There is a common menu and sometimes you have to compromise the taste. We get healthy meal on time. Apart from that, we have cafeteria and night canteens. Online food delivery from hotels outside is also possible.
Admission
BTech in IIT admission is based on the rank in JEE Advanced. Only 25 percent students who write JEE Main qualify for Advanced. For general category, IIT is pretty much sure if you have a rank under 10000. I won't suggest to join in last ranking IIT (as it was established recently and not fully functioning as of now, 2024) if you can get admission in NIT, IIST, IISER, VIT, BITS other well known colleges. The exam is difficult but i would say anybody who is determinent and consistent can crack it.
