Course Curriculum Overview

3.5

Civil Engineering was a vast subject where we can find lot of oppretunities, this motivated me in choosing this as my course. In my course of civil at IIT Bhubaneswar, they not only teach us subjects that are related to civil engineering but they also share basic knowledge in material sciences, electrical, electronics, coding etc. So as an IITian I have basic knowledge on different domains. Apart from these we were taught of economics, human psychology, moral ethics, sports, culturals etc, where it helped us in personality development. In our curriculum they prepare us for real life situations and applications. Our curriculum also include Induatrial training defence after 3rd year where students had to work in real time projects. Apart from these faculty always pushes us to take projects which help us in future. The only drawback from our curriculum is that faculty show interest only in students who show interest towards subjects. And other drawback is the marking criteria is relative.

Placement Experience

2

Considering this year there was 50% drop in placements compared to 2022 due to rescission. Compared to 2022 same companies visited in 2024 with same salary and same roles but no of offers is 50% less. From 7th sem people are eligible to sit in placements. In our collage it will mostly occur from October to January ( most companies). For CSE or SES ( include cse,ee,ece) they get offers from big companies like microsoft, google, amazon, deshaw, oracle, zomato, etc. Highest package is given by oracle with 64LPA and average package of SES students was 18 LPA. Coming to NON SES ( civil, mechanical and metallurgy) highest package offered is 24 LPA by Goldmansacks. And the average is around 11 lpa. Cse and Ece mostly get placements so there percentage of placed student is above 97 and for elctrical it is 95. Coming to mechanical and metallurgy it is above 85 percent and civil with least placed percentage of above 75 percent. My plans was to get an PSU through GATE and to preapere for ESE.

Fees and Financial Aid

There will be 8 semesters. For the first semester it would be : semester fee of : 1,10,000 which inlcude hostel fee and for mess: 15,000 advance fee per semester 125 RS per day. After two semesters there was an increase in semster fee to 1.15 lakhs and no increse in mess advacne. From 3 yr onwards it was constant semester fee but there is a increase in mess fee to 135 RS per day. So in total of 4 yrs it might charge around 2.5+2.6+2.65+2.65 = 10.5 lakhs for 4 yrs. Coming to sholarships, students whose parental income is above 5 lakhs will not get any scholarship. And students having reservation with ews, sc, st having less tution fee (include hostel fee) of 15,000 per semester and with same mess fee. And for the other students their is a MCM scholarship which provides tution fee completely. And other scholarships include individuals state scholarships. Campus employment include doing an particular project or helping in thesis or helping in writing book with our professors.

Campus Life

4.5

Coming to campus life. IITs provide best in this. Before I joined iit I used to be a socially inactive person. But after I joined this college I was inducted by two clubs one is clix (photography club) and cinewave ( cinema club). Here I have worked on various projects, learnt many skills. Societies are not only about learning skills it is about improving our communication skills and social activity. Our collage has many clubs from soical, sports to technical clubs. Our collage has mainly two fests one is Alma fiesta it is an cultural fest happens in February and another one was wissnaire it is a techno management fest which happens in march. Our central library mainly consists of academic books and little novels and journals. We get access through sciecedirect through our institute mail where we can view journals. Each Classroom comprises of green borad, marker board and a projector. There will be Inter iit sports, tech, cultural meets where different iits compete with each other.

Hostel Facilities

3.5

Generally we were provided by a single room ( one student per room) with common bathrooms. Generally, each floor has 16 bathrooms with 100 rooms. With 4 of them were in indian style. Each floor has 4 washing machines to wash our cloths. They provide a fan, a tube ligth, a study ligth, a wooden bed, a wooden table with chair and an almara in each room. Every week a single cleaning session is allocated in our hostel. Better rooms with Affordable price were provided. Coming to the hostel mess. General in iits, there will be students from all around the india. So the taste migth vary according to thier taste of an individual. But when it comes to quality of food it is above average with such low price of 135 rs per day. Every day provide bread and jam, egg or a fruit, sprouts and a tiffin like idly or dosa for breakfast. And for lunch and dinner there will be roties and rics compulsary with curries and sambar or curd. They provide twice a week chicken, once a week fish, and once a week egg

Admission

JEE Advance Exam, this is one of the indians most toughest exam. After I cleared Jee advance I got a rank over 9 thousand and I applied for IITs and NITs through Josaa Nits (through JEE mains). Josaa gave a choice according to my rank. There was 6 rounds where each round got three options: 1. To freeze the option 2. To freeze the collage 3. To go to next round. I got IIT Bhubaneswar civil in the last round. After I got IIT Bhubaneswar in Josaa. There was an internal admission process in IIT,where documents like Josaa selection report,JEE result card,ID card, health reports, caste certificates etc are submitted. And finally they verified if those were genuine are not and gave admission in IIT. Coming to JEE advance exam it was 2 papers of 3 hrs each with physics ,chemistry and mathematics subjects and partial marking for mcqs and negative marks too. It was a difficult and lengthy paper. The difficulty iwas nits and iits admission process was in same josaa where we can select only one.

I would rate the placements at my college as 3 out of 5. Students usually become eligible for campus placements from the sixth or seventh semester, and a few well-known companies do visit the campus every year. The placement cell helps with basic training like resume building and interviews, and many students, especially from IT branches, manage to secure jobs. At the same time, the average salary packages are not very high and top roles are limited, so a lot of students also focus on skill development, off-campus opportunities or higher studies after completing their degree

Students are eligible for placement from their 3rd year onwards. It has been only 2-3 months but I have seen several companies arriving at the college, prominent ones being Flipkar,Deloitte, Xerox, TCS, Wipro, Infosys, Microsoft, Dell and several others including startups. There is no accurate data on how many offers have been made this year, but there are rumours that more than 95% of the eligible students have got placements. After getting a degree my plans are if I dont land into a satisfying job then I will start my preparation of the military or start a new business.
