Course Curriculum Overview
This course includes hands on practical classes and its implementations side by side. The curriculum is packed with hollistic approach to education profile of a marine engineer. The semester exam happens at the end of the year. Before which 2 internal exams take place, one month after another. The semester duration is a little too short. The first semester was just of 3 months.
Internships Opportunities
The Intershnips opportunities provided by this College is that, they circulate this letter and tie up with different ports of India to let their Cadets go for internships and get familiarize with ports and shipping industry. They are in touch with Indian Navy and we get opportunities to be on board the, INS SHIVAJI, INS VIKRANT, etc.
Placement Experience
The placements are the best thing in this college. As the opportunities that they provide are the best in INDIA. Big shipping giants, like TORM TANKERS, Chevron, NYK LINES, Benhard Schult, Synergy, PACIFIC BASIN, Shell, DYNAGAS, etc come each year to recruit Cadets of all years. The placements begin in First Year itself.
Fees and Financial Aid
The course fees of 11 Lakhs include hostel, mess, education, tution fees and all. The exam fees is something which is needed to be paid wheneve semester exams take place. Yes, during the annual fest of IMU KC, TEMPEST 2024, I took part in many competitions and won cash prizes of 18,000, 5,000 and more.
Campus Life
The infrastructure is okayish, as it is a govt. College. It is not that well maintained as compared to how good it could have been. However, it does the Job and cannot complain about the facilities when the placement scenario of this college is the best in INDIA, for Merchant Navy.
Hostel Facilities
The Hostels are well furnished and the mess menu changes every week. The hostels are well kept and regularly cleaned. The laundry service takes 5 days to return. The food is a hard 5. It's not that great, but does the work again. It serves Non Veg for 3 days and the rest are Veg with Biryani every sunday.
Admission
The eligibility of the course is to have PCM in 10+2 with avg above 75%. You need to crack IMUCET Exam. For IMU KOLKATA, the cut off for general was under 1000 Rank for B. Tech in ME course. The entrance exam happens every once in a year, around June whose Registration begins a month before. There are reservation for SC/ST and Girls Quota as well as for General-EWS. The admission process should be less inclined towards the reservation as even the well deserved ones from general category suffer due to such low ranks cut off.
