Thapar University....an experience

The curriculum is quite up-to-date and is regularly updated. This is one of the aspects in which this college particularly excels. The labs and classes are top-notch and well-equipped. Every college has good and bad teachers. Similarly, you would be more likely to come across better teachers here.

Multiple companies visit the college for internships as well. There are internships two times. One is for summer vacation at the end of 3rd year and other is for 6 months of the 8th semester. Companies like Arcesium, JPMC, Expedia Group, Bajaj, Texas Instruments visit for internship.

Placements start in the 7th semester. Although the recession has hit the IT industry pretty hard, placements here are quite okay in that sense. The average placement is around 12 lakhs/annum for the CS branches. Many companies visit the campus like Apple, Accenture, IBM, Intel to name a few. The highest local placement is of about 55 lakhs.

Tuition fees increase by about 10% annually. The fees vary from course to course, generally speaking, lies in the range of 4 lakhs annually (2 semesters). There are, however, multiple merit scholarship opportunities as well. This college provides up to 100% tuition fee waiver. I myself have received a 100% scholarship in 3 years of my study, so it has been quite an investment for me. There are merit cum means scholarships as well. Although costly, they provide means to reduce the fees by quite a lot. It could cost you less than a government college like DTU if you manage to bag the merit scholarship multiple times.

The campus is amazing and filled with fun spots to kill time. There are multiple places to eat and hangout out. There is a hostel in time of 8:30 PM after which you need to go to your hostels and cannot even roam around the campus. The library here is world-class and one of the best libraries in Asia. There are multiple sports offerings as well, from lawn tennis to swimming to basketball. There are countless societies and student chapters that you can become a part of and grow along with throughout your college life (trust me, they are worth it). There is an annual fest called Saturnalia, where Mohit Chauhan performed last time.

The hostels are simply amazing. They feel nothing short of a 3-4 star hotel room. They are well worth the money and even the mess is quite nice. It doesn't give the typical 'mess ka khana' vibe and the food is quite good infact. The mess is managed by sodexo in majority of hostels here. Hostels are available in multiple configurations from single rooms to 3-4 sharing.

Admission is conducted through the JEE Mains score, and boards score for the later rounds as well. The application forms and the rest of the information regarding admission can be found on the college website. Exams are conducted twice per semester (mid-semester and end-semester) and are quite okay in difficulty (you can score the best grade by just studying 1-2 weeks before exams).
