Fun Filled Academics: Kirorimal College

To sum it up, KMC is a dream come true for all the literature fanactics.

I opted for Kirorimal College, Delhi University primarily because of the faculty. I heard from my friends at the university that the English department at KMC is better than any other in DU hence I chose the same. Also, I loved the course curriculum that Delhi University offered with regards to English literature.

According to me, the course curriculam is aptly distributed for three years. The subjects per semester are four and they are chosen keeping in mind the diversity that literature has to offer. This is done so that students do not feel bored by reading the same thing again and again.

Yes, they do provide internships, but I am personally unaware of the same as I did not opt for one in my college days.

I have personally never interacted with the placement cell nor have I sat for my college placements as I was keen on doing my post graduation at that time. Though, I have heard that the placement cell does its work precisely and companies from different domains come to KMC to hire literature students as they are good with regards to their communication skills.

To be honest, even though there were several events celebrated in the college, I took part in only those that concerned my department and not any else. These included, movie screenings and group discussions. The college fest Renaissance is celebrated once a year in a really grand manner and recognized artists from throughout the country come to the college fest to perform.

This is the best part about Delhi University- the fee structure. Since Delhi University is a government college the fee is not extremely high and anyone can easily afford the same regardless of the income bracket that the person falls in. My fee for a year was about 7k. This excluded the exam fee which you give before appearing for your exams (1k).

To be honest, I am unaware of any good scholarship or loan facility offered by the college. I have heard that KMC does offer scholarship, but only in rare cases.

The campus life is simply spectacular! Since KMC is located in North Campus all the other colleges are at a close proximity which is what makes the campus life extremely vibrant. Students keep flocking from one college to the other either in search of their favorite dish at the canteen or due to different events taking place there. The gender ratio is neutral as well. All the events held in the colleges, be it a debate or a street play is worth watching.

Kirorimal College, Delhi University does have a hostel facility. One point to be noted here is that hostel facility is only available for boys. This is because of the lack of space as the college was constructed long back. I personally cannot comment much about the hostel as I never had one. Though, I have heard from my friends who were living there that the facility is pretty decent.

You get to see your seniors for the first time during your orientation. From the next day onward, you will not feel as if they are your senior and you their junior as there is a complete absence of heirarchy.

The exam structure is pretty simple. Earlier, Delhi University had an annual exam system which got changed to a semester system later on. When I was in college, we had a semester system. You will have four subjects per semester. Your exams will be held once the semester is complete (about 6 months) you will have to appear for your exams.

The admission process is extremely simple 1. Wait till you get your 12th result 2. Delhi University will release its cutoff list shortly after the results are declared 3. Based on your 12th score and the cutoff list check your eligibility for the course and college you wish to opt 4. Go to the college where you are eligible and show them your marksheet. The rest will be taken care by them.

The college faculty is simply amazing! All my teachers have been really supportive throughout my three years of graduation. The teachers are less like teachers and more like your buddies in KMC. The kind of mindset that they have completely matches what is expected out of a student-teacher relationship.
