Course Curriculum Overview
The course curriculum for CSE at IIT Guwahati is highly relevent and comprehensive, covering key areas like algorithms, data structures and other CSE courses. It adequately prepares students for real world applications and advanced studies.However,more practical hands on projects could enhance learning,and exams scheduling could be spaced more evenly for reduced stress.
Internships Opportunities
Internship opportunities at IIT Guwahati are diverse and offer valuable industry exposure. Companies like Google, Microsoft, and Amazon offer roles in software development, data analysis, and research. For instance, a student may work on a project with Google focused on developing machine learning algorithms for improving search engine efficiency, leading to enhanced user experience. Microsoft may offer internships in software engineering, where students contribute to developing new features for popular software products like Microsoft Office. Amazon provides opportunities in e-commerce operations, where interns may work on streamlining supply chain processes to optimize efficiency and reduce costs. These internships typically come with competitive stipends, providing financial support to students while gaining practical experience in their respective fields.
Placement Experience
Campus placements at my college, IIT Guwahati, commence from the 7th semester, opening doors to top-notch companies like Microsoft, Google, Rubrik, Sprinklr, BCG, Quadeye, and Deshaw. The average package across all disciplines stands at 25 lakhs, while for CSE, it soars to an impressive 32 lakhs. The highest packages are remarkable, and around 90% of students secure placements. As for me, I aspire for a fulfilling career in the tech industry, leveraging my degree to pursue opportunities aligned with my interests and skills.
Fees and Financial Aid
At IIT Guwahati, the tuition fee for a semester is 1 lakh, with additional charges totaling 30k for hostel and mess facilities, amounting to 1.3 lakhs per semester. However, for students with family incomes below 1 lakh annually, tuition fees are waived, while the other charges remain. For those with incomes between 1 and 5 lakhs, tuition fees are reduced to 1/3 of 1 lakh. Over four years, this translates to 2.4 lakhs for students like me with family incomes below 1 lakh. Various scholarships are available based on family income, offering financial assistance. Additionally, campus employment opportunities exist, providing stipends for roles such as teaching assistants or research assistants, contributing to students' financial support.
Campus Life
My campus life at IIT Guwahati has been vibrant and fulfilling. Annual festivals like Techniche (typically held in September) and Alcheringa (usually in January) offer exciting opportunities for technical and cultural exploration. The library provides extensive access to books and journals, supporting academic endeavors. Classrooms are well-equipped with modern facilities and technology. A diverse array of sports and extracurricular activities cater to various interests. Personally, I'm involved in the coding club, contributing to my technical growth, and I'm also part of the organizing teams for Techniche and Alcheringa, which has been immensely rewarding in terms of teamwork and creativity. Overall, these experiences have enriched my social life and contributed significantly to my holistic development.
Hostel Facilities
As a resident of Lohit Hostel, I occupy a double sharing room furnished with two beds, two tables, an almirah, and two chairs, providing ample space for studying and storage. The hostel registration process was straightforward, and affordability was reasonable, considering the amenities provided. Regarding meal quality and menu, the hostel offers a variety of nutritious options, although occasional improvements could be made. For those opting for rented accommodations, like myself, locality plays a significant role. My rented room is situated in a convenient locality with easy access to amenities and transportation, enhancing the overall living experience. Overall, whether in hostel or rented accommodation, the facilities and affordability contribute to a comfortable living environment conducive to academic pursuits.
Admission
To get admission into IIT's we have to crack Jee Mains then Jee Advanced. The limited duration of the JEE Advanced exam does not adequately reflect a student's capabilities. The application form was availabe online with specified dates and fees. OBC Reservation benifits were availed per government norms. After Class 10th my dream was to get admission into any IIT So, I decided to myself extensive study and investing 10 to 12 hours daily for Jee. Securing an AIR 1830(OBC 281) in Jee Advanced 2022 was a significant achievement that opened the doors to IIT Guwahati. However the process could be improved by providing guidance to Jee aspirants.
