What Students Say
Likes
- Campus: I think one of the Biggest flex about being a student of NIT Silchar is its 625 acre campus with greenery, many lakes and every other things u wished u want in a college. Even an entire day is not enough to tour the whole campus
- Placement: Considering many people from out side of NE INDIA dont opt for northeastern NITs , NIT Silchar is an exception in case of placement
- Sports: There club for any sport u would like to play and facility and support provided from college to some intent
Dislikes
- Remote: At least 10 kms away from silchar town, railway station, airport
- Citylife: No citylife here,Silchar isnt even in top 5 town of Assam. All u get is campus life
Course Curriculum Overview
To be very honest more than 80% students chooses Mechanical/Civil because they dont get CS/ECE for lower ranks. Same goes for me. But I would say mechanical dept is one of the best and biggest dept in college . Also it gives you many opportunities if u truly aspire to be mechanical engineer
Internships Opportunities
Again visit TNP CELL official pages on linkedin and facebook for details regarding placement and internship. TnP cell is the most active and effective club( basically not a club, but a bigger, better, formal organization of people who reaches out companies ) in college
Placement Experience
Right after going to 4th year students are allowed to seat for placement. For detailed placement statistics visit TnP cell Nit silchar page on Linkedin or Facebook. For the last 5 years placement has spiked pretty good but reportedly ongoing placement session is not upto mark
Fees and Financial Aid
Tuition fees structure are updated regularly on official website . Please visit there for detailed info. In brief, SC/ST/ PWD / below 1 lakh family income gets 100% fee waiver, 1L to 5 L gets 33% fee waivee, above 5L gets no waiver . They pay around 78k tuition fee+ 23k mess fee per semester
Campus Life
Best things about this college - the fests, mainly INCANDESCENCE and TECHNOESIS. Check out on youtube. About books and Journals, NIT Silchar has a pretty good library but dont get your hopes high for the "2nd biggest digital library in Asia" tag. The library has many cons, mainly being it is not open 24*7
Hostel Facilities
1st year 2 students alloted in one room. 1X ceiling can, 2X wardrobes, 1X balcony, 2X bed, 2X tables 2nd year: gets worse with 3 person in one room 3rd year: Toppers gets single or double rooms other continue to suffer Internet sucks, mess food bad to average, water supplies 24hrs but water cooler non-functional most of the year
Admission
Through JOSAA/ CSAB. Just like other NITs and IITs . Most of the parts are done online and they keep u updated untill u are asked to report physically for admission. Exams are divided into 3 categories : 30% midsem , 50% endsem, 20% internal ( in respective professors hand)
Faculty
Overall experience from faculty was good for POV of a 4th sem student. But , there's always gonna be atleast 1 professor per semester who will get under ur skin or may not at all. Depends on many factors. If not all most of them hold Phd degrees from renowned colleges and has good experience
