NIT Kurukshetra Review

The admission process is quite simple. After attempting the JEE Main Examination and securing a decent rank enough to get into any branch of this college, you have to apply for the admission through JoSAA counselling.

I personally do not like the curriculum of my branch Computer Engineering. It is not up-to-date according to modern industry standards. They are primarily focusing on the old technologies which are not demanded by the companies today. For example, I had a course named Web Designing in 2nd sem, in which we learnt basics of HTML, CSS, and Javascript and the course was evaluated only on the basis of practical, which I liked. However, in the fourth semester, I had another course named Scripting Languages where we learnt the same techstack again. Also, the course included older technologies which are not so popular like PHP.

There is a provision for the on-campus internships as it is a part of course curriculum. Big companies like Salesforce, Microsoft, Amazon, Flipkart, Probo etc. visit the campus and offer internship opportunites.

The placement in the recent years have declined a bit as compared to the reputation NIT KKR had earlier. This year, however, there is a significant decline in the placements due to the recession going on worldwide.

Tution fee increment and the other policies are similar to what we see in other NIT's. However, as a general student I feel that I'll be payiing around 9 lacs (including Hostel and Mess fees) which is a lot higher as compared to those belonging to reserved category. Moreover, the scholarships in the college also assist only the students of reserved category whether it is based on merit or something else.

Overall experience is quite healthy. All the seniors in the college are also helpful, and the social life depends a lot on the individual himself. The college offers numerous clubs and technical societies where an individual can interact with the peers and make connections for the future. The other facilities like extracurricular are quite average as one could expect from a typical government institute.

Hostel facility is decent here as compared to the other NITs of south and northern region too. There is MHMC (Mess Committee) which can raise voice if the food quality is not up to the mark. If there is any complaint regarding any other thing in the room, it is addressed within 24-48 hours.

The faculty here are well qualified and the friendly nature varies from person to person. They appreciate the students who approach them for a project or have any doubts at the end of the lecture. Moreover, there are some faculties who do some research work for the doubts asked by the students.
