Course Curriculum Overview
I like coding right before joining the college so I was attracted towards CSE engineering. Apart from this we have curriculum like Algorithm, DSA , C++ till second yr which is a good push towards coding. In the 3rd and 4th yr we have subjects which built a good grip over things required for the real world applications. The improvements that can be made are the practical teaching methods like teacher is explaining some topics and is running the code at the same time. This makes it easier for students to understand the surrounding algorithms also. We have our mid terms 2 months after the starting of the semester. After that we have our end sem after month of mid sem. Paper level is a bit difficult and the frequencies of minor examinations disturbs a bit.
Internships Opportunities
Jindal steels offered 80 thousand for 2 months for core engineer. Zedus offered 90 thousand for 2 months, AWS 1 lakh for 2 months. Rest some companies offers 10 to 15 k for 2 months. Projects are required to show the companies what we have built and the knowledge gained.
Placement Experience
From 7th semester students are eligible for sitting for placements. There are many companies that visit NIT Silchar every year naming a few, AWS, Amazon, Flipkart, Uber, OYO, ONGC, Indian oil, banks, Jindal steels, Zedus, Oracle and many more. Out of 1000 students in Every batch 600 offers are made minimum. Percentage of students getting placed depends upon branches. As per last year there was 100 percent placement for CSE, 92 percent for ECE, 76 for mechanical, 82 for electrical, 85 for Eie and 70 for civil. My plans after getting the degree is to get in a well established IT company for a job.
Fees and Financial Aid
When I joined NIT Silchar is 2022, the admission fee overall including hostels for SC students were 75 thousand. This year it reached 90 thousand approximately. So such hikes takes place but not in regular interval of time. We can apply for Ishan Uday scholarship offering 78 thousand per year and NSP scholarship offering nearly the same. Good companies like Oracle, Amazon , AWS and other psu like ONGC, NRL etc. hire students from Nit Silchar every year with a average salary of 12 lakhs pa.
Campus Life
There are two main fests namely Incandescence and Technoesis helded every year in January and February. Nit Silchar has Asia's biggest digital library having a variety of books and journals. We have smart projectors in labs but not in classes, also few classrooms which are having those projectors are not working. Sports life is much supported and good in Nit silchar with proper fundings and support. Students go to other nits for competitions and participations. There are many clubs and societies run by students. Clubs and societies are very beneficial in developing the skill of students, let it be technical or soft skills. The Clubs help us gain confidence and the firm to speak and express ourselves with indulging in much activities developing management skills.
Hostel Facilities
Facilities are good but their way of teaching and the things taught can be improved. The facilities are highly educated with having degrees from other iits or nits. Meal is okayish for the hostels, having non veg chicken for Sunday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday. Saturday they provide fish and for Monday eggs and the veg menu, chicken is replace by panner, fish with veg Manchurian, egg with dum aalu. A form is released, we just have to fill the form and the screenshot of the payment and submit it to the hostel faculty in charge. We can get a pg inside the campus otherwise there are pgs made just outside the campus.
Admission
Eligibility of the course is above 60 percentage in boards and above 92 or 93 percentile in jee mains for general students. For SC, ST it varies and students get a seat for low percentile also. NTA provides the information, application form and details of jee mains. Having a reservation of Sc , St and other reservations is proved to be a lot beneficial for students. Students get branches and college for every low percentile, specifically if an SC student scores 86 percentile he can get a branch in NIT but if a general student scores 92 percentile he may not get a branch or a college. We have mid terms and end terms including minor exams after 1 months of 6 month semester. Difficult of the papers is quite good. I don't see any improvement required for the process. The admission process is easy and good, all the steps are explained by NTA after the jee mains
Faculty
The faculty to student ratio is 1:90 approx. The ratio is good but the way of teaching can be made a bit interactive and interesting. The facilities are good but their approach to teaching is like they know well but fail to portray their knowledge to the students. Teachers can be approached many a times if having some problems. They do help us and are available for us and they interact and guide us well.
