Course Curriculum Overview

4

I opted for this course because i was interested in sociology. This course prepares me for UPSC, pursuing it for masters and other job opportunity too because apart from sociology we have VAC ( value added course ) and SEC ( skill enhancement course ) which make the skills diverse helping us making the portfolio better. Areas for improvement in curriculum: - Reduce the quantity of the syallbus rather focus on the quality of it. The frequency and timing of exams is based on the schedule set by DU, the exams are moderatoly easy and you can easily ace them just by studying PYQs.

As per 2022-2023 placement cell report: a) 242 total placement offers acoss courses b) 452 total internship offers were given c) Highest package was of 2150000 d) Average package was 658000 For this course the top offer companies were reliance digital, Dmart and croma for the posts of - HR executive, Market research analyst, school counsellor etc.

Fees and Financial Aid

The tution fees does not increase, total fees for this course is 51000, while per year fees is 17000. There are lots of scholarship option available for meritorious students and internship options via DU summer fest and placement cell investment fair. I had undertaken the role of executive member for the sociology association of Sociology department at my college. It was a wonderful experience.

Campus Life

4.5

My overall experience with the campus life has been amazing, there are lots of fests conducted by various society in the college. The annual fest is "Nexus" which is held 1 month before semester exams. There are lots of books available in the library. As for facility inside the classroom we have projectors in each classroom and science block students also have AC. For sports we have a huge ground for football and cricket, 1 ground for badminton court, 1 basketball court and 2 tennis courts. There are various student run society and groups. One of the famous ones is venkydogs which is a society that takes care of the dogs inside the campus.

Admission

The eligibility of this course is that you must have 12th with a humanities background. You enter it via CUET exam the proceducres for same are mentioned on the NTA website. There are reservation benefits in CUET. The cut off for general candidate for sociology hons at this college was 720+/800 I had no issues during the admission process it was quite smooth.

Faculty

4.5

I would say that the faculty of my course is exceptionally good and their approach towards teaching us is based on including theory with method. The qualification of the faculty are listed on the university's website. We can approach teachers fairly easily but there is certain way for it. That is we cannot call them at late hours because they have their own persnal life too. The con is not the faculty but rather the hectic schedule set by DU which leads to rushing of syllabus often.

Placements are available in college, the drive is quite extensive, everyone is made aware of the choices and options and counselling is present too. It is from the third year, students are eligible to apply for placements. Companies and organisations take part such as Niti ayog, Times, Geostrata, Prajatantra foundation, etc. Those who desire usually work on their CVs, keep on doi internships and then get a placement. The packages are not that impressive to be honest.

The course is really very interesting. It keeps up with our expectations. Involves both practical and theoretical aspects to make sure that we are able to face the real world. Also, with the help of the guidance that we get from teachers we're able to ace both the aspects. The examinations also are based on applications, thus, helping us to enhance ourselves in all possibilities.

I got a seat in Ramjas College. It is a north-campus college. The infrastructure is too good compared to the remaining colleges. The teaching also going well but I faced some language problems. I'm from south India so I don't understand Hindi properly. But here mostly they teach in Hindi only and English is used very rarely.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The course itself is prestigious and is mostly opted for by people who plan either on preparing for the Civil Services or those who want to pursue academia. The course structure is framed in a manner that you don't just simply study history there, but you ingrain a critical viewpoint of a young historian. The faculty of History Hons. has some of the best Professors in the University, although you will in any course at any college find some teachers below your expectations, you don't have to bear them for more than 1 or 2 semesters. Passing the exams is not very difficult, but yes scoring above average is. If you get a GPA ranging from 6 to 7, you've performed fine. Above that is considered a Very good performance in Hons. courses of Social sciences at Delhi University. there are semester exams every 5- 6 months
