- I was a student of DSC from 2020 to the summer of 2023. Since the very beginning, my experience with my department in particular has been quite accommodating. The faculty was abound with exceptionally erudite professors. Each professor had their own
- unique teaching method, suited best to their papers. They were indeed the best of mentors. The quality of social interactions at DSC were unlike anything else. The societies became a safe haven and helped me become uninhibited and more independent.
- The ECA societies at DSC are truly the best of the best. Talent is encouraged, skills cultivated, everyone is pushed towards excellence, and there is always a safety net to fall back on. It is where I was my best version. The library was excellent.
Dislikes
- DSC did unfortunately have some shortcomings, as all things do. The infrastructure of the buildings is dated and shabby. While the college cafeteria is constantly under supervision for quality checks, many of the classrooms or TP rooms are neglected.
- The window panes are cracked posing the danger of breaking and causing a hazard, and the ventilation isn't too good in the classes at the farthest corners of the building. Regretfully, the condition of the washrooms aren't the best. It is unsanitary
- sometimes and there aren't enough stalls. Menstrual supplies for girls are sometimes available, other times they are not restocked, leaving people to fend for themselves. DSC is also unfortunately known for fights and an incensed political scene.
Course Curriculum Overview
I have always had both a great fascination and a flair for books and the literary world. Being the greatest aficionado of literature, before I even received my board exam results, I went right away to look up the syllabus of the three-year literature course under Delhi University. DSC had this course and boasted of a respectable faculty, one that I had heard of from my seniors. Since I have an inclination towards the subject and want to pursue this line of profession, the course strcuture has appropriately prepared me for higher education as well as a means of passive income on the side to support my studies and smaller expenses as I come of age.
Fees and Financial Aid
The tuition fees throughout the duration of my course in Dyal Singh College remained nominal and within our budget of affordability, coming from a middle class family. The complete cost of my education for the three-year course fared around approximately thirty-two thousand rupees only. Now with the implementation of the NEP and the possibility of extended four-year courses, fees structures may surely have undergone changes but even those are optional. I undertook no campus emplyments save for the role of president in one of the ECA societies and thus a member of the ECA Student Body. Any of the funds we were provided by the authorities went towards society activites and events only.
Campus Life
The quality of social interactions at Dyal Singh College were unlike anything else. As a textbook introvert that dreaded any conversation that stretched beyond my practiced lines, the societies/clubs in my college became a safe haven. It helped me come out of my shell and shaped much of my confidence and enabled me to be much more independent and uninhibited than before. The ECA societies at DSC, be it for art, creative writing, debate, quiz, music or dance are truly the best of the best. Talent is encouraged, skills cultivated, everyone is pushed towards excellence, and there is always a safety net to fall back to in the form of the most supportive team. It is where I was my best version. The unified three-day Annual Fest of Dyal Singh College is called 'PRIYADARSHINI' that usually falls in the month of either March or sometimes April. The range and collection of books and resources availabe in the college library are vast and expansive. It is accommodated well and comfortably.
Admission
The admission process was simple, smooth and hassle-free. In the year 2020, right in the middle of the pandemic where we feared lots of hurdles, the entirely online process went as well as it could have been. There were no entrance tests then and the only eligibilty criterion was a good AISSCE percentage. I was a general candidate and availed no reservation benefits except for the 1% provided for a 'women's quota'. I hadn't experienced much confusion or inconvenience in the admission process then. It was all very easy to understand, especially with the guidelies provided.
Faculty
The faculty was abound with exceptionally erudite professors, who eased us into this great transition, from both school to college, to the uncharted waters of online classes in the beginning. Each professor had their own unique teaching method, suited best to their papers and subjects. They were indeed the best of mentors to all students, so much so that many a times we skipped extra-curriculars or stayed back for several free hours only to not miss a particular class or lecture. Plenty of professors were eager to schedule extra classes for doubt-clearing sessions or even just to further progress their syllabus, undeterred by a small strength of students. They were completely content to teach a handful of students and answer all doubts and clear confusions.
