Likes
- One of the best things that anyone would easily notice in Thapar University is the world class infrastructure. No matter wherever you look whether in the classrooms or the hostels the infrastructure will steal your look for sure.
- The second thing I really liked is the hostel mess food. I have asked many students of other campuses about their mess food quality but listening to their reviews I found that the food in our hostels really stands out.
- Last but not the least... The gender ration in the campus is a lot better as compared to other engineering colleges in India. So getting a partner is not that hard in the college, even with the minimal efforts one can easily get a partner.
Dislikes
- High fees. Undoubtedly the high fees is the biggest cons of this college. 6 lakhs per year is something very few families can afford.
- Punjabi Culture. Now this is something not everyone will like. So if you get irritated by the punjabi culture it will irritate you like hell.
- Entry timings. This is the most hated part of this college faced by students. So all students will have to get back to college by 8 pm at night, and to the hostels by 8.30. So it makes the college life quite boring.
Course Curriculum Overview
The curriculum is the basic curriculum which is as follows for first year they have to study subjects of all domain for a basic understanding of the concepts. The main thing begins from the second semester when 80 percent of the syllabus belongs to your own domain. The subjects in the curriculum are important topics like databases, operating systems, computer networks, which will not only help the students in exams but also the main placements. The exams are so frequent that you even will not get a chance to breathe. One exam will be over and the other will be ready to spoil your mental peace. They are so easy in the first semester but gets extremely difficult as the year progresses.
Internships Opportunities
The internship opportunities starts from the very second year of the students. Most intenships in this year are unpaid but you get a lot of exposure. Jp morgan starts its journey from the second year by its code for good hacka, the highest paying company is de shaw which pays approx 1 lakh to the interns. Thapar also has its own internship providing org calles as venture labs which is so useful and has a lot of rescources in it. Projects include ELC activities per semester and is compulsory for everyone to complete it .
Placement Experience
The placements in Thapar are the best part about it. Majorly for the computer branches the placements are brilliant. Many famous MNCs visit the campus every year for the placements and recruit many students. The students become eligible to sit for internships and placements from second year. JP morgan , Apple , Amazon are some of the companies that visits the campus. 90 percent of the studets are placed. My plans after degree is to persue masters from US.
Fees and Financial Aid
Tuition fees is around 170000 which increase at a rate of around 10 percent per year. The complete cost of education for a bachelors degree in this campus is around 30 lakh. The total fees include the tuition fees , the developement fees and the hostel and mess fees. There are a lot of scholarship options in this college which include scholarships by cg cut scholarships by jee ranks scholarships by means of income.
Campus Life
The college hosts a lot of events that include society events and thapars own events. The annual fest is known as saturnalia which is a 5 days long event and includes lot of events in it. Almost all of the 30 societies organises their events once or twice a year. The library omgg The Nava Nalanda Central library is one of the biggest libraries in asia and it is really massive, Having a capacity of around 1000 students and a world class infrastructure makes it so unique onits own. The annual sports event Urja is a spectacular event on its own. Teams from various colleges comes to the campus for playing different sports.
Admission
The admission process is very simple , there are two ways of getting admission in thapar either by jee percentile or by board marks. The form can be found online when the application starts and needs a registration fees of around 1500 . Main exams occur twice a semester and small quizzes occurs very frequently in the college . the exams are actually vey tough.
Faculty
Faculties in every college are more or less the same. All the faculties are highly qualified as in every college. The main thing to note is the easy access to all the faculties. Anyone can visit them personally or mail or call them and they will surely reach you back as soon as possible. But the issue is the high class strength there is a teacher for almost 200 students that causes a lack in interactivity in classes. The way of teaching of different faculties is different many of them just come to class prepared with the slides they have to teach and just teach like robots and leave the class. But some are just exceptional they know the name of each and every student and they regularly ask students the questions in classes and also they are quite strict about the attendance of students shows that how much they worry about the students future. All credentials of the faculty teaching is uploaed on the students portal and he can connect to the faculty whenever he needs.
