Course Curriculum Overview
I always wanted to pursue engineering and it was my dream. And I wanted that kind of engineering stream that involves field work. So I opted for Civil Engineering as I belong from Assam and here, job opportunities in Civil is quite good. Civil is purely a technical field. It shapes you into an engineer that have to use his brain as well as his hands. Suppose, we are given a building to construct, so we have to know each and every aspect like material cost, estimation etc. Then only we can shape the building as the client wants. Course curriculum must be updated. This is an old curriculum. Many new techniques are used in Civil during construction which are not included in the curriculum. They are going with the conventional methods only. There are two exams End Sem and Mid Sems held every semester and also there are minor tests.
Internships Opportunities
I am currently doing an internship with Oil India Limited, Duliajan. The college provides a great intership opportunity in this case. The TnP commitee is in constant touch with the college administration and try to provide the most available opportunities available with them.
Placement Experience
I joined this college for placement opportunities only. This college has the record for providing one of the most highest package in entire north easy with max salary of 80 lakhs per annum (off Campus). Campus placements go as high as 52 lpa in CSE. In my branch,.PSU gives highest placement offer like OIL India. Profiles offered can be in many sectors like core, tech, management roles, banking roles, teaching roles etc. Percentage of students getting placed in my branch is around 75 percent. Average package is about 7-8 lpa. After getting the degree let's see, I can either do the job if I get in campus placement or I can opt for MBA as an option.
Fees and Financial Aid
There is fee relaxation for the BPL students and students from SC ST quota. Also general guys can avail fee concession by opting for the payment option below 1 lakh per annum as their household income. Many other scholarship opportunities are also provided for poor students. We can also apply for scholarships in NSP postal like the Ishan Uday Scholarship, Pragati Scholarship etc. For a general/OBC student with above 5 lakh per annum as their household income, they have to pay a tuition fees of 72500 per semester and hostel fees of 22500 per semester.
Campus Life
Tecnoesis and Incandescence are the technical and cultural festivals respectively in our college. They are one of the biggest in the entire north east. People from outside our college used to come and enjoy our programs. NIT SILCHAR has Asia's biggest digital library with tons of books that you will love it. All classrooms are well equipped with smart podium and projector facilities for better understanding. Inter NIT is held every year. This event provides a great boost to the students in case of fitness and physique. We also have a well equipped gymnasium in our college. Boys and girls can go there and get their biceps bigger in any point of time in the day. Also we have many clubs in our college like the Music Club, Quiz Club, Dramatics Club etc. I myself is a moderator of Music Club and the Head of the Quiz Club. These clubs provide you the opportunity to become an extrovert from an introvert person. We also have an E-cell for discussing business startup ideas and their execution.
Hostel Facilities
Hostel facilities are quite good. Hostels are well equipped with lan and wifi facilities. The food in the hostels are also quite good. There's a mix of North Indian and South Indian dishes every alternate day. Rooms in hostels are well equipped and furnished with beds, tube lights, fans etc. Registration process for the hostels is quite easy. You come to your alloted hostel, meet the supervisor of the hostel, handle him the fee receipt paid in the college payment portal and get your room. It's that simple.
Admission
The admission process is completely online through JOSAA portal. It was really hassle free. You have to qualify JEE MAIN in order to get a seat in an NIT or a GFTI. Eligibility of the B.Tech course is that you have to pass 12 board exams with minimum 75 percent of marks. You can get every information regarding admission in JOSAA portal. There are reservation benefits one can avail like if you are from SC/ST or PwD category, you can avail benefits both rank wise and fee wise. Admission process takes a long time that's the only issue we faced. Otherwise it's good to go. Exams are held on time in accordance with the academic calendar. You can say exams whether it's a 10 marks or 20 marks or 30 or 50 marks there are held every month of the academic semester. The difficulty level in my course is quite moderate. It's not that east too.
Faculty
Professors in NIT SILCHAR are very much friendly. They help you in every possible aspect. They are well qualified with a PhD in their respective area of interest. They guide you in your career path and also tell you the do's and don'ts that you have to keep in mind in your B.Tech journey and in your life. Many of them have been post doctoral from many well known IITs that's why the quality of knowledge they possess is top of the world. Faculty to student ratio is also on a fairer side with an average of 1:5. Even many interactive sessions with the professors are also conducted by the college which provides a great boost and confidence to our knowledge.
