Course Curriculum Overview

4

Political science Hons course has undebated relevance in today's age as the political phenomenon both nationally and internationally is tense and complex which encourages description and study of this and political science students are aptly skilled theoretically and empirically to study the same. The revised NEP curriculum of the Political Science hons DU specifically covers all myriad aspects of political science which includes Western political thought, Indian political thought, Colonialism, comparative politics, public administration, international relations, Indian Constitution, etc. The extensive curriculum promotes academic rigor & deals with vast reading material along with condensation and understanding reflected in the form of long-format answers. The exams are conducted at the end of each semester (after 5 months) which is of easy to moderate difficulty. The exam only includes long-form answers, not objective questions, which promotes rote learning & should be corrected.

Internships Opportunities

4

Internship opportunities are provided round the year in ARSDC mainly by the Placement Cell and by different departments of the college. In the 2021-22 cycle, more than 300 internships were brought in by the Placement Cell. The major roles include human resource, content writing, graphic designing, proofreading, marketing, leadership roles etc which brighten the employment prospects of the students. The stipend can not be generalized as internships range from unpaid to 10k a month stipend, they are entirely dependent on the nature of internship and the individual merit

Placement Experience

4

Students get all year round internships in ARSDC while in the final year you may begin to look up for college placements. As per the official website of the Placement Cell, ARSDC, companies like KPMG, Deloitte, Bank of America etc have participated in Placement drives. More than 100 Companies rolled in 2021-22 for placement with 230+ job offers tabled in the same year. As for political science, masters is necessary for employment but students can apply for government exams and internships.

Fees and Financial Aid

The fee for an year ranges to 15,000 INR which varies according to EWS and non EWS category. This fees excludes examination fees which is charged during the form filling of semester end exam which costs 1100 INR. Rest no other charges are wielded by the Institution. The cost of courses also varies with the type of course you pursue p, e.g. in BSc you need access to functional labs therefore the costs are higher. The scholarship are offered under different courses. There are in total 17 scholarships, the eligibility of which can be known through the college's website. Taneja foundation scholarship is extended to any student with merit and need. The Placement Cell of ARSDC is highly active and gives monthly internships and employment opportunities.

Campus Life

4

The overall campus life of ARSDC is really great and up to the level of expectations which I had with the Delhi University. TIDE is the annual fest organised by the College in February/March which invites crowds in thousands, along with Diwali Mela around Diwali and fresher's party in September/October. The library is very extensive with availablity of all books required by a student along with the facility of e library for online resources. Various sports teams like basketball, badminton, cricket, football etc are available. NCC of ARSD is one of the most renowned ones in the circuit. National Service Scheme and Enactus are one of the most significant student run societies which have direct benefits in terms of engagement, communication skills, leadership qualities, community service and personal development.

Admission

For admission in political science honours in DU, you need to qualify 10th and 12th with atleast 45% and have to sit for Commom University Entrance Test (CUET) exam. Only the basis of CUET scores, the University of Delhi gives admissions for various courses. Each course has different eligibility, for political science, the best score of 3 domain subjects plus compulsory English language scores are added making the total marks of 800. The required scores for admission vary on two factors - College and Category. If you want to pursue Political science honors from prestigious colleges like the Hindu College, Kirori Mal College, and Miranda in North Campus, then for the general category the score should be 785+ and if you want to pursue from South Campus, then a general category student need to score 750+ for Sri Venkateshwara College, ARSD College, etc, the scores successively decrease for each category. The admission process can be understood by the CSAS process as given by DU.

Faculty

3.5

The faculty to student ratio is medium, not too small, not too large as per the standards of Delhi University. The faculty to student ratio is 50-60. The attendance is ofcourse not always constant, the real classroom strength remains at 30-40. The Faculty has degrees from the Delhi University and majorly Jawaharlal Nehru University and have good experience and pedagogical expertise. Not all faculty members are equally qualified or are good at teaching, but majority number of them are. There are frequent interactions with faculty members who also guide you in non academic areas plus the engagement also increases manifold if you are a part of Departmental society because then you work day and night with them which enhances your experience.

I got a seat in Ramjas College. It is a north-campus college. The infrastructure is too good compared to the remaining colleges. The teaching also going well but I faced some language problems. I'm from south India so I don't understand Hindi properly. But here mostly they teach in Hindi only and English is used very rarely.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The course itself is prestigious and is mostly opted for by people who plan either on preparing for the Civil Services or those who want to pursue academia. The course structure is framed in a manner that you don't just simply study history there, but you ingrain a critical viewpoint of a young historian. The faculty of History Hons. has some of the best Professors in the University, although you will in any course at any college find some teachers below your expectations, you don't have to bear them for more than 1 or 2 semesters. Passing the exams is not very difficult, but yes scoring above average is. If you get a GPA ranging from 6 to 7, you've performed fine. Above that is considered a Very good performance in Hons. courses of Social sciences at Delhi University. there are semester exams every 5- 6 months
