Course Curriculum Overview

3.5

Our DSE options were great. Literary Theory was provided to us at BA level which was very beneficial for preparing for CUET. Partition literature, 19th C European realism were some of the others. We had to submit one assignment (20marks) per semester and sit for a 3hour long semester examination (80marks). for the first four months, you're given the liberty to distribute your workload and will not be tested. However if you pile up everything then, the final month before sem exams will be traumatic, but that is what most of us did anyway.

Fees and Financial Aid

College fees were around 12,500 per year. We had to pay 500 per semester as exam fees (so 1000 per year) After graduation, Certificates (provisional and migration) will cost 500 each. The biggest cost factor is that seats in hostel are limited. Hostel fees are around 6000 per month including food electricity laundry. However most are unable to avail it as seats are as low as 5 per course. while we have over 50 per course. The rest have to find other means of accommodations which are most of the times very costly in delhi.

Campus Life

4.5

Campus life was wonderful. Nescafe lawns are always bustling with events. There will be one event or the other in atleast one corner of MH. from ibrahim ali khan (for his shoot) to Intellectuals like romila thapar, diverse people have set foot in MH making it a hub of vibrancy and intrigue. We have a lot of clubs- Dance (western- tanz/classica-mridang), Music (western-orpheus/classical- geetanjali), Anukriti (drama), Adventure club, gandhi study circle, etc.

Hostel Facilities

5

Hostel rooms are excellent. The new block has big rooms, well ventilated windows with mosquito nets attached. Two big cupboards, two desks with storage. One mirror with four drawers below it. We never had any storage issue. however the top floor gets very hot during summer as we donot have coolers. There is often the problem of rats and dead pigeons. Sometimes water runs out in the toilet. We have two toilet blocks per floor. each block has 5 toilets and 5 bathrooms. there are geysers and 6 washbasins as well. it is not overcrowded. We also have two common rooms and one study room that has AC. We have one pantry per floor with the three necessary facilities- fridge, hotplate and microwave. they are shared among the residents.

Admission

The admission process has changed. We were the last batch to get in via our board marks. Now you have to give CUET along with having good marks in your boards. For CUET, you should be in the top 1% in percentile to qualify for MH as the competition for getting in is supersaturated.

Faculty

5

The BA English faculty is excellent. While quite a few of our best professors have retired, MH holds its legacy and even our ad hoc professors were better than most du colleges. we had the oxford style tutorials but with 5:1 ratio. Otherwise all the professors are just a mail away and are always willing to help. A personal anecdote- my department professors helped me through one of the toughest times of my life. I still remember the day when each professor told me to not give up and to keep on fighting. Help of every kind is around every corner of MH, you just have to take the first step and ask for it.

Placement Experience:

Placements are available in college, the drive is quite extensive, everyone is made aware of the choices and options and counselling is present too. It is from the third year, students are eligible to apply for placements. Companies and organisations take part such as Niti ayog, Times, Geostrata, Prajatantra foundation, etc. Those who desire usually work on their CVs, keep on doi internships and then get a placement. The packages are not that impressive to be honest.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The course is really very interesting. It keeps up with our expectations. Involves both practical and theoretical aspects to make sure that we are able to face the real world. Also, with the help of the guidance that we get from teachers we're able to ace both the aspects. The examinations also are based on applications, thus, helping us to enhance ourselves in all possibilities.

I'm from south India so I don't understand Hindi properly. But here mostly they teach in Hindi only and English is used very rarely.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The course itself is prestigious and is mostly opted for by people who plan either on preparing for the Civil Services or those who want to pursue academia. The course structure is framed in a manner that you don't just simply study history there, but you ingrain a critical viewpoint of a young historian. The faculty of History Hons. has some of the best Professors in the University, although you will in any course at any college find some teachers below your expectations, you don't have to bear them for more than 1 or 2 semesters. Passing the exams is not very difficult, but yes scoring above average is. If you get a GPA ranging from 6 to 7, you've performed fine. Above that is considered a Very good performance in Hons. courses of Social sciences at Delhi University. there are semester exams every 5- 6 months
