It is one of the oldest marine engineering colleges in the world. The college enjoys a magnificent legacy. The placement status of the college has always been above par. There was a time once when the college enjoyed 100 percent placement record. From the time the college has come under Indian Maritime University. Their placement states have gone down to 80%-85%. The fall in the stats can be attributed to the new set of guidelines by the university. According to which, one can sit for a placement interview only if he has cleared l his arrears. At all, if you are average to good at studies, you will certainly bag a placement through the campus.

I appeared in IMU-CET , A entrance exam conducted by IMU , which is headquartered in Chennai. I was sceptical about my success in JEE ..So I was searching for other alternatives.In this IMU entrance I got a decent AIR-592.For the preparation of this test I didn't studied anything extra. Due to my JEE preparation.I need not had to go for any other preparation.Test was computer-based and it was very easy for one who has a good enough grip on JEE Topics.

Since ,I m in Kolkata campus of the university..It is governed and administered from chennai.since its inclusion in Chennai headquarter..Our kolkata campus had undergone many changes.Now syllabus are more academic.. Previously it was more about training and spending time in workshops.Though, these subjects are okay enough.Since there is only one engineering branch here and all Cadets have same subjects throughout their four year training.Academically the curriculum is well framed but the routine of the cadets doesn't allow them to have such vast syllabus.Despite that our college is performing good in every aspect .

The college doesn't provide internship from its own side.We need to track such things online and on notice board on regular basis .

There are two fests organised every year here ..First one is Annual literary fest of college..That is Lit-O-Sphere. It covers only literary events like poets,essays, creative writing, extempore, debate ,quiz , etc. The second fest is TEMPEST..Which is one of the biggest college fest of Kolkata.It include all events related to Sports, Cultural and Technical.The special attraction is Campus princess which is another way to get oneself featured in Miss India of that particular year.

The overall fee of the 4 years is 9Lacs.In every odd semester One need to pay 1.25 L and 1L in even semester.Since the college provides good placement..This fee is feasible which somewhat hides the bad infrastructure of college. Our college doesn't enjoy a subsidy from the ministry ..This is the only reason to have this much fee of a govt college

Scholarship is provided to the top 60 students on the basis of their academic performance. Banks easily provide loan to the college because the college has high credibility and good placement record.

The college was set up at its current location at Taratala, Kolkata in the 1950s. The college has all the facilities including laboratories, Wi-Fi, sports ground and courts, gymnasium, workshop, dispensary, separate hostel juniors and seniors, auditorium, mess and academic building. Though the college is old, some of the infrastructures seem bit old, but they won't let you compromise with your studies and training. Here in the college there are almost absense of female cadets..In every batch there r only 2-3 female cadets.

Some hostels need proper maintenance..Though all hostels are good enough .Since this is a residential programme..So one have to stay only in the campus hostel. The mess food is not that great in first year hostel.As one proceed to senior hostels the quality of food ascents .

We have vast alumni network.Since the college is oldest of india .. Alumni are very helpful.They don't hesitate to contribute economically as well as emotionally to the college. Some seniors are head of the shipping company..Some are in DG Shipping important posts..Hence they lend all possible support to the college.some have even helped the students to get them placed in the shipping companies.

In every semester there are 10 subjects. Of these 6 are theory subjects and 4 are practical . In theory subjects their 30% is assesed internally and in practical subjects their 50% is assesed internally .The main semester exams are conducted by headquarters and there is very strict rules and regulations during the invigilation of exams .

After the declaration of IMU result, a notification of counseling came on IMU site..There I submitted my counseling fee of 10000 and filled in my college preference.My first preference was IMU KOLKATA Campus .In the very first list of counseling , I got my desired college.After that I had to submit 25000 for the allotment of my seat .I was then given a date frame of 5 days ..In which I had to come Kolkata and get all my documents verified.After the verification of my documents..I was allowed to stay in Hostel of the college.

Most of the faculty members of the college are alumni of the college. It is preserving the legacy of the college. Most of them have sailed through the sea and have got immense experience to share with the trainee cadets. The curriculum of the only course running in the college that is marine engineering is framed by IMU and is very helpful for a cadet pursuing marine engineering.
