Remarks

College infrastructure and building need renovation and furnishing. College management needs to bring the glory of the college with a more genuine attempt.

Course Curriculum Overview

3

The course curriculum is quite good. But it should have been more practical rather than this much full of theories and books. Because. Marine engineering is something where one needs to excel good enough to board the ship. As one can't afford a slight mistake on board.

Internships Opportunities

Let me be very clear this college doesn't give you the conventional engineering degree. After the completion of the 7th semester. The cadets stepping in the 8th semester are expected to bag a placement from any shipping company and after that, they need to go for a sail during their 8th semester. During the sail .. Cadets get a stipend as per their companies. That is what we can call as an internship in this industry. Upon completion of that voyage as a trainee. They have to submit their voyage report. Upon which they hey their degree.

Placement Experience

4

Till the college was not part of the IMU. It enjoyed a massive placement record of almost 100%. But after that. It had gone down to 70-80%. This dip can be attributed to the fact that syllabus had changed dynamically and shipping companies have started to prefer cadets of other private marine colleges. Though, at present, the placement scenario is not that bad at 70%.

College Events

3

The College cadets organise two big events throughout the year. The first one is Lit-o-sphere. Which is the literature fest of the college? The other one is Tempest. Which is the biggest marine fest of any marine college? This is four-day fest which includes all sports, technical competitions, and cultural activities.

Fee Structure And Facilities

Being a govt college. The fees are quite high. The only reason for this is unlike most of the govt engineering college our college does not get a subsidy from the govt. And the other reason for not getting subsidy maybe that college doesn't come under HRD ministry. Rather it comes under shipping ministry. Fee- 2.25L per year

Fees and Financial Aid

Top 60 cadets of the University of each year get the scholarship. The topper of each batch gets 100000 and other get 75k and 50k likewise. Being a reputed marine college no bank hesitate to give a loan to anyone studying here. The state bank in the campus also grants a loan to the cadets.

Campus Life

3

There are only 9 female cadets in the college campus pursuing marine engineering as of now. Here the cadets are from every part of the country. Be it Kerala, Punjab, UP, Bihar. Or any geographical area. All co-curricular activities take place during college fest and national fast celebration.

Hostel Facilities

3.5

The third-year hostel of the campus is the newest and best hostel of the campus. All other three hostels are old and need maintenance. Though, the first year hostel has gone through enough maintenance last year and is now in much better condition than earlier. The second-year hostel has two wings where the rooms are of 4. The mess food is average.. and at most of the times, one can afford to eat there.

Alumni/Alumna

The alumni network of the college is very strong. Some of the passout are heading shipping companies. Some are in DG shipping. Hence, they help in every possible way to make the cadets placed in the shipping company

Exam Structure

Each semester comprises two internal assessments and one-semester final exam. The weightage of both internal examination+attendance+discipline+assignment+other is 30% for 6 theory subjects. The other 70% is of final semester exam. For 4 practical subjects. The assessment by the internal examiner is 50% and the other 50% is even evaluated by an external examiner.

Admission

I got an online form on the site of the university. My centre was in my own city. It was a computer based online exam. My test went quite well and I was confident enough of getting a decent rank. I got a good rank. Filled form for counselling.. Got my desirable college in the very first round. Was called in college in a date frame for document verification and other admission formalities. And the very day I was allowed my hostel.

Faculty

3.5

Most of the faculties of the college are alumni of the college itself. As the college has its own glory and legacy since the 1950s. So that is quite obvious that all the faculties all well qualified and quite well in their job. The good thing is that the director of the campus had also been once a student of this same college.

Placement Experience:

The campus placements happen in final year of the course. There is a well established placement cell to conduct the on-campus placements. Many well renowned companies visit our college namely Microsoft, Google, TI, TSL, PWC, ICICI, ABG. L&T, etc. The highest package was 50LPA and the average was around 9LPA. Over 90% students got placed from across every department and details of the placement is also available in the college official website. I have gotten a job from the on-campus drive to a core company.

The placements of our college are below average. Studies for placement are more or less relevant from second semester. companies like tcs, amazon etc do visit our campus however very few are selected with package above 4-5 LPA. Most of the students seek out for higher studies and that's my plan too.

Placement Experience:

After the 6th semester, the students are eligible for placements. Mass recruiters like TCS, Wipro, Infosys, Accenture, Capgemini, etc visit every year and pick up 80-100 students per company. Other companies like Amazon, Thoughtworks, Etc also visit the college. The highest package offered by our college is 15LPA by Thoughtworks. Every year around 75-80% of students get placed on campus. I plan to get a good job work for 2-3 years and then apply for Masters. Overall the placement is very nice in this college.
