Remarks
Everyone says college doesn't matter but in my personal experience, it does matter to a certain extent. You get that extra push when you are from a Tier-1 college. It is not that you cannot achieve your dreams if you are from a Tier-3 college , you definitely will but it would take some time. As compared to other WBUT colleges, NITMAS needs to improve a lot when it comes to faculty, extracurricular activities and placements.
Entrance Preview
As this was one of the very few colleges in West Bengal which was providing a Residential facility for its students, it was one of the first choices for me since I was not a local. I had a few better colleges in hand but I was determined to take up ECE and also the residential campus was a plus point.
Course Curriculum Overview
The course curriculum was at par with the WBUT standards. The subjects were good enough but WBUT as a board should improve it's curriculum and provide more counseling as per industry standards which would be useful for students while working after graduation.
Internships Opportunities
Yes it does provide internship and I had attended one in my 3rd year but it was not at all useful. And moreover, no stipend was paid.
Placement Experience
The placement is below average when compared to peer colleges in WBUT. Around 20% of the students got placed with leading MNCs and 5% of the students opted for better companies. 20-30% of the students got placed with other MNCs in the campus. The rest had to go for off- campus placements.
College Events
There were very few events conducted in college. The main was the Tech -fest - Sankalp which we used to struggle to get sponsorship for. It was really difficult to convince the management to provide permission/funding for the same. There was a once in 2 year cultural program and one yearly sports meet. Not sure about the management now, have heard that it has changed a lot since then.
Fee Structure And Facilities
It is towards expensive. Each semester would cost you 1 lac approximately excluding your personal expenses. Being from a lower - middle class background, it was really difficult to manage so much of fees. I applied for a student loan in order to pay the fees.
Fees and Financial Aid
Nopes, no scholarship was available and I had to take up a student loan to meet the fees demand. Not sure if any new program has started in this category.
Campus Life
The campus life if good. The gender ratio is almost 3:2 male. There was an annual sports meet and also the annual tech fest. This tech fest was the only consistent annual program throughout my 4 years college. No debates or other activities was organized by the college.
Hostel Facilities
There is a lot of difference between the Boy's hostel/mess facilities and the girl's hostel/mess facilities. Overall the food was good and the hostel was well maintained. But we at the girls mess usually had restricted amount of food being served to us whereas the Boys would always enjoy multiple options.
Alumni/Alumna
No not that much. If you really need to get an honest feedback/help on any queries regarding college, I would suggest visiting the college personally.
Exam Structure
The exam structure is 2 Semester per year and in each semester, there would be 2-3 internals including Practicals and Viva exams. The ECE dept had it's own set of internal Vivas, 3-4 each semester. The final Semester Exam would be conducted by WBUT and it would mark the end of each semester.
Admission
I appeared for WBJEE and secured 9000 something rank and went through the counseling session held at Kolkata for WBJEE candidates. There I picked up this college as my 1st preference and took admission on the spot into ECE. Then I just had to fill up some forms and pay some deposit amount to secure my seat.
Faculty
Being from the ECE department, I can assess only the ECE faculty. Few of the faculty members were too good and thorough with their subjects but many of the faculties were not up to the mark. Some of them not even qualified enough to be teaching B.Tech graduates.
